I find it funny that people give the eastern europeans such a hard time about coming over here (me included) but what about the "antipodian" populus of london. I am well aware that many young brits go to places like australia to work. But lets face it, its not for the pay, its for the experience. (the money is c**p). Is it becuase they come from english speaker countries and thus dont incur such resentment. Ive heard many an aussie with the plan to work in london and then send the money home, so its not exactly going back into the economy. Id love to know the figures and ive struggled to get work in the tv industry because its full of aussie, kiwis and saffers.

I know they may have the right but im sure eastern europeans can argue this with the whole 'EU' thing. Besides, every aussie i know hates london. They say its to expensive, its never sunny and everyones miserable. And they always seem to go on about how much better austrailia is than england. They must really want the money then. (Tip: Dont get on aussie going about sport)

The 2001 UK Census reports the following antipodean populations living in London

Australians - 41,491
New Zealanders - 27,493
South Africans - 45,507

Giving a total of 114,491

On a related note, Eastern European countries do not feature in the top ten. The total London antipodean population is smaller than the London based Indian and Caribbean population which is 172,661 and 142,498 respectively.

While there are still plenty of Aussies working behind the bar in London, these days there are more Polish women. I'm afraid that since you are not a millionaire, then you will have little choice but to go into shared accommodation. Rents here are *very* expensive. The cheapest one bedroom flat you will find in London is around £700 per month. That's $1550. Needless to say, you will not find a place that cheap in Central London, so sharing with a bunch of strangers is pretty much your only option.

There are about 240,00 aussies in london at any particular time.
I saw this on a tv program about 5 months ago.

They probably get the jobs coz they are better workers than most other people

Considering that the UK still owns most of these places, they really have more right to work here than any eastern europeans anyway

Far too many it is said that 1/3 of the New Zealand population is in England on their O.E. Funny they can come and work here while we have nealy the entire population correct at 1985 till 1990, and due tot he way the UK government class unemployed people it will probably still be the same.
I cannot belive why we have so many, and whilst they enter the country on a non career developemt job, they all set up off shore companies, and can reclaim the VAT back and all use the COuncil services, watch BBC, in fact one of the biggest emplyers of Kiwi and Aussie nationals are the BBC, Local Councils, and Capita, When they should be cleaning the toilets, and bussing tables. In a class of 28 26 of their nationals were here working against the conditions of their work permit. All reports to the Home Office, and zero prosecutions or investigation made. They all used the NHS, did not pay income tax by setting up companies registered in Ireland, Iles of man, Guernsey or some other off shore tax haven. All claimed the VAT back. They used the cars without road tax, paid no monies to the treasury. Having reported them they all returned back and I found out their flight times and dates ad the British govt did jack diddley. A few of them have had children here, which gives their children dual nationality. They used the NHS to have them, and when we go go there we are barred of working, and cannot use their health care, and cannot recover the GST we pay, their verison of VAT. I did mention this to the Immigration offciers when I visited NZ who kept reiterating to me I could not work there. I had gone to see my Grandmother a NZ national, and said look why are you harassing me we have 3.5 million unemployed correct in 1987. Yet the British govt allows your people to come and work when we have nearly the number of people unemployed as your entire population. He said to me, well your country and govt and people are stupid then, we look after our people first. There would be an outcry if that was the case here and we allowed hoards to work, not pay tax, claim the GST, and I had to conquer with him.
The people beget the govt if wolves when you are sheep. Arise Englander and be angry , be very angry? PS most of the 28 out of a class were Indian, and Chinese, in case you think it is Bruce and Sheila, our long lost illegitimate children can come.
