Hi Jayne...consider either Petfinder http://www.petfinder.com or Charlotte Craiglslist: http://charlotte.craigslist.org/pet/ . People post ads every minute daily on both so be sure to check back often. Kitten season is slow this time of the year so you'll have to look often everywhere including shelters. They are out there, but you just have to keep looking.

Call Petco or Petsmart and ask for a list of rescue groups. They can probably give you schedules of when the rescue/adoption groups are at their stores.

This isn't kitten season. Finding little-bitty ones will be difficult at this time of year. There are probably older kittens available, yet, though. They are still fun and playful at six, seven, ten months old.

I don't know how old your little sister is, but kittens under six months old should not be placed with kids younger than six years old - for the safety of both the cat and child.

Oh, another good reason to find them through a rescue is that often you can find two kittens that have been fostered together and are already bonded. :)

I live in Chapel Hill NC. and i got a very pretty himalayan kitty in Zebulon NC (close to Ashland). The kitty i got has a brother that might be there still.
