If you're talking about building muscle, then in my opinion there is two general ways to go. If you want to have the big, built muscles, you should do heavy weights with low reps. If you want to get toned muscles, use weights you can do with some ease and do a lot of reps.

If you were talking about losing weight, many people think slow jogging or walking for long periods of time is best, but walking for a whole hour on a grass track will only burn about 400 calories. I suggest running laps at as close to 2.5 mins each you can get, and jog for 20 mins. At 160 lbs you lose about 300 calories and you can of course extend your running times.

As long as you don't mean the least amount of effort, I would say running or jogging. Rapid improvement but boy do you have to work!
