in relation to sinning. If you've read the book, specifically this question is relating to The Scarlet Letter - standing up on the scaffold and publicly announcing you have committed a sin such as adultery.

The Bible says that we should publicly confess with our mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord (Rom. 10:8–10).

Many are not capable of being non judgmental. Many years ago the faithful did public confess their sins to their community.

Later, private confessions were instituted so that the priest could assist the penitent in their spiritual journey.

What are you talking about? We have the freedom of Religion and Speech. It is acceptable. A tax-payed organization cannot use its funding to assert a certain religion, but people (in school) can still confess pubicly as long as they aren't teling the students to believe whatever

Making "a show" of confessing dilutes it's value just about 100%.

It looks like one is just showing off how humble they are, when in reality, they are just SHOWING OFF!

I think it tends to be a bit self-indulgent and motivated by ego.

Because friends and neighbors think alike. I think maybe unnecessary.
