The people that make those comments are obviously putting someone down to make themselves feel up. I pity people who lack self esteem and need to project their own insecurities onto others around them. Beauty if in the eye of the beholder. Just because a person doesn't measure up to the social definition of beauty that doesn't mean that the person who they are with has not seen past that superficiality and seen the true beauty in their spirit. Have you not met someone and at first you don't find them attractive but after getting to know them fall in love with their spirit and don't even notice what they look like anymore. Just like little kids see their mother's as beautiful because love of another changes your perception of appearance.

My husband and I have been married for 28 years. I am 5'10 and he is 5'4 and 12 years older. Every time we are some place public we are subject to gossip. My husband and I always get a kick out this. It just amazes us how so many people are shallow. It's all so silly. I was lucky to learn, at a very young age, that it is the personality that you have to live with and not the looks. People just assume that my husband is a wealthy old man or that he is well endowed. Neither are true. Of course they think I am a gold digger or married my Daddy. It has made for an amusing life.

Yeah I've noticed this and a lot of the times I usually just tell them to shut up about it ( in an educated, polite way) and to find other objects of interest.

As long as you love each other, you'll look right for each other. Don't worry, people will be saying "O they look cute together" not "What an odd couple."
