What's the difference between a promise ring and an engagement ring? Don't they both mean you want to be together forever, and that you are betrothed to one another?

A promise ring can indicate a mutual promise to be together and be monogamous without any expectation of marriage. but an engagement ring goes the extra step and signifies a promise of marriage and staying monogamous for the rest of your lives together.

Promise rings DO NOT mean you are "BETROTHED" or engaged. Promise rings are a promise that that person loves you and will be with you forever. Engagement rings is a ring that he uses to actually ask u to marry him

A promise ring is a joke. When two adults are ready to be committed to eachother the engagement ring is just a traditional way to show this. But a promise ring is usually bought by a guy who is trying to control a woman but isn't ready to really commit anything to her. It's both a waste to receive one and a waste to wear it.

A promise ring doesn't cost as much as compaired to an engagement ring. A promise ring is more of a "I want to be with you and you are special to me" as compaired to a engagement ring, which is like "You are the love of my love and I want to marry you" A Promise ring seems to be for younger couples who don't have much money.

Promise rings in my day were given by the boys in high school. It used to mean that one day, we will be engaged to be married.

Promises are easier to break than engagements.
Basically the first means that you promise to be together while the second means you are engaged to be married.

a promise ring is to allow the boy to get into the girl's underpants and have sex with her.
The engagement ring means he likes what she has and wants it forever and ever.
