I had a Smart for two years (I loved it) the Merc dealer could have fitted a baby seat to the passenger seat but it was an all but perminant fixture, that meant that either I or my wife could not be in the car at the same time. I reluctanly sold it (Broke my heart)

Regardless of the smart technology involved. It is always better for children to sit in the back seat for safety purposes. The smart technology in the "smart car" is primarily to adjust for the different body types and different positions of persons sitting in the passenger seat. For example a 5 ft 100 lb female will not need the same air bag deployment as a 6 ft 4 in 250 lb male.

A child restraint can only be fitted in the passenger’s seat, where the airbag poses a very real threat of severe injury or death for a child. Although we did not test the restraint system, the warning to parents about this hazard was inadequate. A child can only be safe in this position if a Smart restraint is used which, when fitted, turns off the airbag. But a universal restraint will also fit: this combination would be lethal.

The law states that ALL Children under the age of 13 are to travel in the rear seats of a car. I personnally wouldn`t use a baby seat in a smart car under any circumstances

Putting a car seat in the front is never a good idea. If the airbag can't be disabled she should NOT use a rear-facing car seat in the front under any circumstances whether it's legal or not.

NO!! if the passenger seat has an airbag that cant be grew to become off do no longer positioned a baby seat in that seat, no remember no remember if that's rear dealing with or no longer. in case you have an twist of destiny (and that i'm hoping you dont) the air bag will burst off and it will suffocate the infant. positioned the automobile seat in the back and in case you desire to comprehend if the infant is advantageous, get yet another reflect and place it on the back window.

Whilst it is legal to have a correctly fitted seat in a smart car i would nit use a seat in the front of any car. Statistically you are more likely to be hurt in the front passenger seat than any other
