I am a Christian and have studied Islam as well as visited a mosque during prayer times.

I have a lot of respect for Islam. They have very devout and knowledgable follwers. They truely desire to have Allah's Will and way of life to be reflected in them. They are kind and compassionate and desire peace. (with the exception of the extremist of course)

I found the teachigns of the Qur'an to be somewhat amusing how convient they were for the personal life of Muhammed. I have a lot of literature from Islamic societies trying to convert people. Most of the literature appeared to be to be outdated and just not real attractive to me.

I wish there were as high percentage of truley commited professing Christians as there is in Islam.

Islam, is in fact an old religion and therefor has its place in the world. The basis of Islam is Judaism as it is for Christianity as well. What makes me wonder is how practitioners of Islam can be so violently opposed to the core of their faith (Jewish people) and how the teachings of one Prophet can cause such a firestorm throughout the religion. What is my opinion? Just this, somewhere in the course of history the religion of Islam went of course. The Prophet who gave them the quran was misguided and possibly did much of his teaching based on the peoples moods at the time. Is Islam totaly bad in my opinion? No but thats not saying that it is good either...

I believe that every religion has its zelots yes even Christianity and no one person should be judged based on their religion but rather their actions and whether they treat all of Gods creatures in a Just manner. All of Islam is not Bad nor is All of Christianity...

As a person who's studied Islam in great depth, from every angle I humanly could, (fundamentalist, liberal, Shia, Sunni, etc.) I think that it's a good religion for those who like it. As long as the person is using it to become a better person, more altruistic and kind, etc. then it's "good", if it's used for arrogance, self-serving purposes and agendas then the person is misusing the religion. NO matter WHAT religion.

pesonally I have no faith or at least am reserving judgment till i see the light or otherwise, but in relation to your question, I have no problem with islam or any other relegion, certianly islam is portayed by the comercial media as a relegion of fanatics, but I hold no stock in media hearsay nor should any educated person.

I do hold reservations however from what i do understand of the region that a person can commit "sin" and is saved no matter what so long as prior to death they announce allah as the true god, is this true?

in any case i hope this helps answer your question

I am pretty neutral. To be honest, I don't know enough. I have never read the Koran (although I do want to), I have few Muslim friends although I live in an area with quite a high concentration of Muslims. Frankly, if people's knowledge of Islam comes from CNN, then they have no knowledge and probably shouldn't spout it.

All religions have their extremist factions, but I believe, from what I know, the majority are moderate.

I don't know that much about it, but it seems like just as good a religion as any. As a Christian, I consider Islam to be the uncle of the Christian church.

It seems that many Muslims today have taken violence and sexism too far, but I don't believe that is the intent of the religion. They are not the first ones to abuse power in the name of their faith.

It's equivalent to Xianity. Same same, but different.

That being said, I'm no fan of any religion that preaches intolerance and hate towards people who believe differently (infidels) and uses fear to recruit and keep it's flock in line. Islam, as a monotheistic religion, is in that category.

I have no opinion because I haven't studied it. I have had Muslim friends but it wasn't a topic of discussion. I abstain from opining ;-)

I am concerned that it is a very backwards religion that imposes too many harsh rules on those who follow it. Most concerning is the deplorable way in which it treats women as second class citizens.

It is at the BOTTOM of the heap.

The Quaran is full of ERRORS!
Therefore NOT inspired,
http://answering-islam.org/Quran/Science/index.htm

The Quaran INSULTS ME PERSONALLY!
It states;
"Not Jesus, but a look alike, was substituted and crucified at the Cross." -4:157
THIS IS BLASPHEMY - AND A LIE! No proof can be offered at all.

The Unholy Book demands SUBMISSION or DEATH!
The Verse Of The Sword from Al-Tawbah
Fight and slay the pagans (infidels) wherever ye find them, and seize them,
beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war." - Sura 9:5

"Prophet, make war on unbelievers and hypocrites, and deal rigorously
with them." - Sura 9:73

"Let not the unbelievers think they will ever get away. They have not
the power to do so. Muster against them all the men and cavalry at
your command, so that you may strike terror into the enemy of Allah
and your enemy... Prophet, (Mohammed) rouse the faithful to arms!
If they (the non-Muslims) incline to peace (accept Islam) make
peace with them." - Sura 8:59

"If they reject your judgement, know that it is Allah's wish to scourge
them for their sins." - Sura 5:49

"Believers (Muslims), take neither Jews nor Christians to be your
friends: they are friends with one another.
Whoever of you seeks their friendship shall become one of their number,
and Allah does not guide (those Jewish and Christian) wrong-doers." - Sura 5:51

I hope this is enough!
