The vet

If you are getting him from a responsible breeder he should already have his first distemper/parvo vaccination (done at 8-9 weeks of age)..he also should have been dewormed 3-4 times already. You need to make an appointment with a vet to get an exam..this needs to be done within 72 hours of purchase/adoption no matter where you got the puppy from.
If he has had his first vacciantion he won't need his second until he is 12-14 weeks old and he can be dewormed again at that time. If he hasn't been dewormed or had his vacciantions he will need to have those at this first vet appointment.
If he has started the vacciantion series he will need his third and final set of vacciantions at 16 - 18 weeks and then his rabies when he is 20 weeks or older.
You need to find a vet and set up appointments.

Do NOT be tempted to buy OTC dewormers or flea products for your puppy, they are ineffective and can be very dangerous to your puppy, they could even cause death.

Owning a puppy is a responsability..the first year of ownership is the most expensive vet wise..they need their vacciantion series, regular deworming, spay/neuter and at least 3 exams.

If you are getting the puppy from a breeder or pet store the puppy should have already had the first series of shots. If not you need to take the puppy to a Vet. to get the shots. They are not cheap, around $50.00 to $80.00, but for the health of the puppy that is a small price to pay. If this is your first dog please get the shots if you can't afford the shots (which it will need every year for life) then maybe you should wait for a better time to get a new puppy. I'm not trying to talk you out of it. Just be a responsible pet owner. You will both be happier. Good luck.

This puppy should be brought to an emergency vet clinic as he's at risk for dehydration. Puppies at that age can become dehydrated very VERY easily and it's the number one killer of puppies. Just giving him water won’t help since he won’t be able to drink enough at a time to help. He probably needs IV fluids to get him back to where he should be. Take a look at his gums; are they pale in color at all? Pull (not hard) on the scruff of his neck (back of the neck) and see how fast or slow it falls back into place. These are ways you can check for dehydration, although they are not fool proof. He really should be seen by a vet and waiting could result in loosing your puppy! More then likely your vet will recommend that you feed him only boiled rice and ground beef (a bland diet) for the next 7 days to give his system a break. Then after the 7 days you will have to wean him off the rice/ground beef mix and back onto his regular food slowly. You could feed him just boiled rice without the ground beef also. He really should see a vet though, as soon as possible. I went through this with my puppy around that age. -Brit

The shots you gotta go to a vet for. Just look in your phone book for vets and call around for the best prices. As far as worming it, there's liquid wormer that you can buy at wal-mart but it rarely works. Over the counter stuff usually does. However, deworming pills are usually fairly inexpensive. I got my puppy dewormed for six bucks. Luck

I would look for veterinarians in your Yellow Pages. Call each of them and ask for their prices. Call your friends that have dogs and find out where they take their pooches. You might try calling your local animal shelter--they might know of a way to get economical shots and deworming. Hope this helps!

Some of the shots you can get at a Co-op (feed store) and the wormer to,but there are some shots you have to get the vet to give. Be very careful with waiting to long, dogs get parvo very quickly.I usually give the shots I can, and the others I get at the vet.I lived in Kansas for two years and thats what I did.
Oh and Rabies is one you will have to go to the vet for.

The vet is the only trustworthy person to handle your puppy and determine what to do, although it is expensive. There are some clinics that offer cheaper shots, but you have to know who is to be responsible for your puppy.

you can buy the dewormer medication at any store that sells pet products witch will save you some money as far as the shots go you will have to call around to different vets to see who is cheaper and also sometimes pet stores will hold a clinic to get shots at a cheaper price then at a vet's office you will have to call around at different pet stores.

I would take my puppy to the vet to get his shots and deworm him. But you can also deworm him yourself.
