I would suggest both.
Satan's influence and our ability to act independant of God, causes mankind to sin.
Satan can make things that are not righteous look so good to mankind, like the fruit of the tree in the garden.
For whatever reason, mankind seems to like to do the forbidden.
Maybe it is to see if they can get away with it.
Maybe it is because it has been withheld from man, and that makes him want it.

Neither. Sin is a concept made up to keep the masses under control. We make bad choices in which there are consequences...but they are earthly consequences and they are usually immediate. Hell does not await anyone. Mankind simply acts and reacts. There is no sin. You are weighed down by what others have written and by a dark and small vision of god. Look outside the box....into the universe....and let the dogma go.

Both I believe. Man has total freedom over every single one of his actions in life. He is open to choose what he believes to be right or wrong. However the 'demon' influence as you put it are sent as trial to man to test his steadfastness.
These 'demon' influences don't have to take the shape of a red face with horns sticking out his head and a red tail, these are a man's own selfish desires which inhibit him from attaining his goal in every aspect of his life, be it material or spiritual.

I choice to sin is ultimately free will. Do evil spirits have an influence? Of course they can! Jesus was tempted by Satan. Yet that did not "make" him sin. Instead he chose not to fall into temptation. Sometimes Evil Spirits, make sure there is sin there always for us to choose.

There is no such thing as sin. If we transgress, we do so against ourselves as individuals with only our consciences as final arbiter. Satan or the devil is an imaginary boogie man invented by church leaders to make people behave. The only evil in the world lives in the hearts of human beings. The proof of that is everywhere in every living thing.

When man fell in the garden, we bowed down to Satan's hand. We became just like him. Our base nature is now just like his we are evil. No one has to tempt us, we do evil all on our own.. We need to be recreated made to be like God again. This can happen now through the blood of Christ. Just remember this recreates us spiritually we still must life in this flesh of sin... Jim
