I think you may mean over something like a PC is it?

I think these are the main ones.....

1)Flexibility.
In event of control system needing to be altered a PLC may simply be re-programmed where a traditional system would require re-fitting.

2)Functionality.
PLC has vast array of built in functions like relays and timers which are freely accessible at any time where a traditional system would require additional hardware.

3)Reliability.
Less parts and not subject to mechanical failure. More robust.

4)Communication
Provide a means for an interface between system and control system used.
