Me and my husband bought a 1993 Buick LeSabre and since we have had it which has been not quite 2 weeks we have had to get a :
1. water pump
2. serpentine belt
3. a sensor
4. and a spring replaced

and the car still isn't running right, not to mention the 100.00 to have towed to a shop to have it fixed! So in all we have paid 500.00 down for this car plus a tow and we are out @ 600.00. Our first car payment is due this friday when I get paid. (we also have another car, that is running) Our question is should we make this payment or take the car back to the lot were we got it and eat the 600.00 and be done with it? What would you do and why?

IT WILL NOT AFFECT OUR CREDIT BECAUSE THEY DON'T REPORT TO THE CREDIT AGENCIES

Thats an unpleasant situation. Depending on where / who you bought it from the results could be different. If it's from a big dealer you could try to take it right back and trade it in for another car, ask $1000 trade in value. For all the trouble, possibly mention filing a report with the Better Business Burea or check out your states Lemon Laws. If the dealer dosen't give in and let you swap it out for a better car you could argue with them and try to get them to reduce the price to your 500 down payment only. If they agree to no more payments, then it might be worth it to keep the car. Otherwise give up and lose the 600.00 repair costs but save yourself alot of trouble and leave the car in their lot. If they don't want to take it back it proves they had fradulent intentions and knew the car was a lemon right? I don't think you should have paid more than $500 for a car that old in the first place. If you bought it from a private party I think you've lost your money and would be best to just return the car and cut your loses unless you can get them to agree to no more payments.

Check around on cars.com for good deal cars, I've found all my bargin cars that way. & if possible is there a way for you to live with only one car?

This is easy... The 1993 Buick Le Sabre is only worth
1800.00 to 2300.00 if the mileage is under 80000 and the car is in A #1 shape...

The 3800 series 1 engine and trans are only as good as there past CareTaker....
And if you can only afford a Used car remember THEY are used and anything thing can BREAK on anything at anytime....Just comes back to how it was takin care of for the past 14 years or how ever old they are...

Now that out of the way... You have to look at the big picture VS Cost... Read your Contract... ? Why would you fix the Car out of your pocket and you haven't made the 1st Payment ???? ((This always puzzles me))) You should have contacted them 1st. If this is a Tote the Note lot you have found out HOW they make their money selling junk to the poor or poor credit people...

OK you've spent 600.00 and you most likely need to spend 225.00 more on it... What is your Total payments going to end up on this car VS what the selling price was??? if its going to be over 2500.00 TALK with the selling Dealer or LOT and see what there mind set is. Will they work with you? and let you get into a different car? Taking the 600.00 off the price of another car that runs better? Plus your Down payment? If they will work with you pay attention to the fine print on the contract. Make sure they don't add it to the bottom line AGAIN. And see what all they are charging you for and see what your total payment will come out to VS what your buying...

I been ripped off by Tote the Note lots. I don't buy cars from them anymore.

Also I would walk away this time if they would give me 1/2 of the repairs done back on the car not including the towing...On this car....

Get a car Guy or Tech to check out your next car before you sign.

Good Luck.... ADDED...I Like that comment about contacting the BBB and also see if they have a record of doing this to other people also??? And maybe a local TV News is doing a report on Customer Service or People being ripped off in the Holiday season... You might be what they are looking for

In all honesty, you shouldn't expect the dealer to do anything unless you got a warranty. You bought a 14 year old car, and there are bound to be problems with it. It's unfortunate that these problems came up right after you bought it, but sometimes that happens.

In most states, the law is "buyer beware" which means the dealer doesn't have to disclose problems with the car, nor is responsible to fix those problems, unless you got a warranty.

If you let the dealer take the car back, a number of things could happen. First, you might have a great dealer that will either give you your money back or let you pick out another car. This is very unlikely though.

Most likely, it will show up on your credit report as a default or a repossession, which could seriously hurt your chances of getting another loan.

The dealer may agree to cover the cost of the repairs, or part of the cost, though this is also very unlikely. Remember, if the window sticker or the sales contract said "As Is-No Warranty" it means they have no legal responsibility to fix anything, or tell you of anything wrong before you bought it.

I know the following piece of advice comes too late to help you with this purchase, but it's always best to have a reputable and certified mechanic check out the car before you buy it. Unless you get a warranty, once you buy the car, any repairs are your responsibility, after all, it is your car now, problems and all.

Your best bet is to tell the dealer what you've spent on the repairs already and what it will cost to get it running right, but don't expect them to do anything about it. They may help with the cost of repairs, but it's not likely.

No one can foretell when a water pump will go out. You bought a 13 year old car. Did you think it was going to serve you well for 5 or 6 years without any problem???

The belt was probably shot, and the mechanic did the right thing by replacing it, so you wouldn't have another tow bill in 2 months.

SHUT UP!

(this is a serious answer)

Take it back and get a better car, if you keep that one more things will show up later that you'll have to fix and you'll end up paying more money than if you invested in a better car in the first place. I had a friend who had the same kind of car and he sold it a month after buying it because so many things were wrong. I hope this helps and good luck! I dont know if taking it back would do any good or not. It depends if u had a warrenty on it.If u did not they wont do anything. I u let it go it will hurt ur credit so what i would do is go ahead and keep it then try to re slae it for what u owe on it
