Let me try to simplify this....There are bacteria and viruses...Bacteria are microscopic particles of DNA. Viruses are microscopic particles of RNA (1/2 of DNA). Viruses when they get into your system, embed themselves into your cells and use YOUR own RNA to make copies of itself. The reason that viruses can mutate is that each person who gets a particular virus contributes a unique part of themselves to the virus identity.
Some viruses when you get them make a lot of copies right away and you get sick right away. Other viruses hide out until they have made enough copies of themselves so as not to be detected by your immune system.
It is true that once you have had a particular virus you can never get the same virus again because your body detects the "fingerprints" of the virus....Then it immediately launches an attack against the virus. Viruses know this so they are constantly changing to try to overcome our immune system.
Viruses are able to survive outside a host for a wide range of time frames from 1 minute to 100 years. This is why hand washing is crucial to health promotion as you wash off the viruses.
I hope this is helpful

Most viruses do not cause life-long infections. There isn't any particular reason why some do and some don't, they simply evolved particular life cycles that are good enough to remain in populations. As far as viruses going away, they go away mainly because of your immune system. HIV infects immune cells, and can evade immunity while destroying the cells that cause immunity.

Viruses are very tough and difficult to kill compared to bacteria. Bacteria have a membrane which antibiotics can get through and are prone to drying out; but viruses are surrounded by a tough coat of protein. Viruses can hibernate.
They mutate as well, so every time they get into a new person they change slightly, that makes it harder for your immune system to deal with them. It takes time for you to figure out how to deal with them and they make you ill in the meantime.
Good heath and hygeine are the best prevention but ultimately its not foolproof.

It doesn't matter where you move, viruses are everywhere. They are spread by people using improper hygiene (i.e. not washing hands after using the rest room or blowing noses, etc.) Viruses live on Earth like we do and there is not much we can do about it. We can try to stay healthy buy eating right, washing our hands, and trying to refrain from getting too close to ill people.
Plus, if people would just STAY HOME when they are sick, that would help a lot!

viruses are everywhere. they are there more when it it cold because people huddle in small places with heating which recirculates the air inside. Lots of people in enclosed spaces means viruses spread faster. When people have lowered immunes, the viruses can replicate more easily. Wash your hands before you eat, keep your immunity up with fresh food and exercise, and you will reduce your chances of being a sufferer. x

Usually from mutated versions of old viruses. Depends on who gets the mutated version first. . .and then who it is passed to and keeps getting passed to.
