Actually the answer is NO. Cats and dogs do not have the same kind of tactile oriented nerve endings on the skin that humans do. They can feel when their fur is touched or disturbed (try lightly touching your cat while it's sleeping and you'll see his/her skin crawl), but they do not have the ability to detect the difference in textures. The reason cats snuggle on fuzzy blankets and on your soft lap is because they like to be warm. The fuzzy blanket reflects the cat's heat back and of course your lap provides an additional heat source.

Yes they can. My kitten clearly prefered to lay on a soft blanket, or a woolen jaket. She must feel the softness

I am sure they would because even if you pet a cat very softly they can feel it.
If you really love animals then vow this New Year to not eat them! If your soft kitty tasted like a chicken would you eat him/her? Do something good for the environment, your health and the animals by not eating animal carcass anymore.

Yes, I think they can because their fur is like having sensory points on each hair. So that would make it easy to feel any and all textures.
