I fed my Chihuahua, twice a day. Once in the morning and once around dinner (to cut down on pooping in the night). I used half a can of the small cans of wet dog food and mixed with a quarter cup of dry dog food, and warmed it in the microwave for like 12 seconds. And always had water available.

Has your puppy had his/her initial vet check yet? You should have one within a week or so of getting a new puppy, I don't care how reliable, trustworthy, etc. the breeder. If the breeder is a good one, he/she will advise you to see your vet for a new puppy visit, even if your puppy doesn't need any more puppy shots yet.

When you go to the vet the first time, make sure you have a list of all the questions you want to ask. What to feed your little one is one of the questions you need to ask. Also, a good thing to do when you make the appointment would be to ask if you should bring a stool sample, or anything else with you for your appointment. Make sure you take copies of your puppy's health and immunization records.

If you haven't gotten to the vet yet, start out your baby on the food the breeder was using. Then, if you and your vet are not happy with that, you can gradually change to another. Another question to ask your vet is his/her recommendation on how to change food. Even if you don't want to change now, you will have to move from puppy food to adult food as your Chihuahua grows up and matures.

By six weeks, your Chi may be able to eat dry food. Our vet's advice was to go with dry, but moisten it with water if our Chihuahua had trouble chewing it or refused to eat. Do not give your puppy milk, unless he's not weaned yet (uncommon by six weeks; most puppies are weaned by five weeks old. ) If your pup isn't weaned yet, get a vet appointment immediately. You will need to get ***** milk or a ***** milk substitute and wean your little one yourself.

A six week old chihuahua should still be with it's mom but since it's not, purchase a good puppy dry, add hot water to soften the dry, drain and feed. You can add a little premium canned puppy food to the mix. At six weeks he/she only has little teeth and feeding only dry may be hard for the puppy and serving only canned puppy food may be too rich.

Feed three times a day and feed as much as the chi can eat in 10-15 min. Its a shame you ripped the chi from its mom so early. You should have done more research before you bought.
Here are sites you can look at to find a good food. Avoid foods with corn, by products, and food dye. Find one that lists an actual meat/meat meal as the first ingridient.

soft food is easier on growing teeth but eventually moving on to crunchy type food keeps teeth clean of plaque.
