They're together 20 years. They contribute financially to the well being of their town by donating heavily to Architectural Heritage programs and building a new addition to the local Library. They are the first to volunteer at the annual Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners for the poor. They care for their neighbors cats and dogs when the neighbors go on vacation. They are deeply spiritual and attend mass regularly. They are 2 gay men and they identify themselves as Catholic. The Church rejects them and issues edicts encouraging other Catholics to reject them. Are they Catholic?

Sure, you can call yourselves Catholic and even attend Mass. Maybe not in the small church where everybody, and especially the priest and ushers, knows your orientation, but in another church. But why continue wasting your time on them when you'll be welcomed by any of the Pagan communities? There's Wicca, and the Universalist Unitarian churches for starters. Check them out. They have many people of alternative lifestyles, and others who are just frustrated and fed up with the structure and dogma of mainstream religions. There's really not just 'one way.' -Many roads intersect and lead to the same ultimate goal.

If the Catholic religion were a true religion, the answer would be that God makes that determination, not the earthly body of men comprising the Catholic heirarchy. Thus, only God knows for sure.

But since the Catholic church is not the true church of Christ on earth, the answer is no, they are not Catholic since the earthly body of men makes all the decisions for this false religion, therefore, since they have rejected these men from involvement with their religion, they are outside the membership of the Catholic club.

Yes , they can be Catholic, there are Catholic churches that fully accept gays. The Church that is rejecting them and telling others to reject them may call themselves Catholic, but they certainly are not "Christian". The Catholic church is extremely hypocritical, when they cover up pedophilia commited by priests, but criticize and persecute gays! They give a bad name to the loving, accepting Churches and Christians. One of the MANY reasons I converted from Catholicism to Buddhism.

Kinda remember a Catholic priest saying that the Old Testament was giving several hundreds recommendations to straight people and only less than 10 to gays. He concluded with a grin that God seemed to be much more worried by regular sex than by what gays do, LMAO. Now, I can't really see why being and a decent person would exclude people from the Catholic faith.

I'm a Catholic, and I'm straight.

Yes, they can be Catholic and attend church. But according to the guidelines now issued by the RC church, they cannot take communion. There are some priests that skirt around that, but most don't.

Celibate gay people can take communion, if they're in every other way qualified to do so.

Silly religion, huh?

THE CATHOLIC church is just that... a religion! The catholic church has been trying to play God EVER since Jesus ascended into heaven...EVEN BY CHANGING DOCTRINE TO There advantage and even changing the word to suite there needs.Even BUY TRYING TO HIND pedophiles in the church to
protect them from law. THE catholic church even has hidden entire books of the bible from the public in fear that they do not agree with there teachings. Men have even died in wars against the church.'DELIVER US FROM EVIL' a great movie to see on how the Catholic church tried to cover up the scandal of priest molesting young boys... SO what I'M TRYING to say is that JESUS didn't come to share religion . JESUS came to share GOD AND HIMSELF...that's Christianity . THERE are more people in mental institutions because of religion than any other reason ...YOU have to ask yourself what Jesus teaches not what man teaches...RELIGION has been twisting gods words for eternity....there are enough studies to show that the original writings of scripture have been twisted to conform to religions and conservatives....IF Jesus were on the earth today he could never measure up to religion...THE catholic church would try to keep even JESUS out... HECK they have done pretty good so far.
THESE young men have to stand strong in what they believe..God will honor them..not man.

If they were baptized Catholic, or otherwise officially received into the Catholic Church, than of course, they are Catholic.

The Catholic Church has a great deal of respect for all people, no matter what sins they may be presently caught up in.

All unmarried Catholics are expected to remain celebate, and to refrain from sexual relations of any kind, with any one.

Church teaching is clear, and it applies to all, equally.

Gay people are encouraged to attend Mass and to participate as fully in the life of the Church as is possible.

Unfortunately, by publicly adopting a lifestyle that is objectively, mortally sinful, they create scandal, and they make a deliberate choice to separate themselves from the sacrament of the Eucharist, and from service in many of the lay ministries of the church.

There have been no edicts from the Church specifically rejecting homosexual persons.

Engaging in homosexual activity is objectively a grave sin, as is any type of extra-marital sexual activity, whether hetero or homo.

Publicly exhaulting a gay life style in a Catholic parish creates scandal, and it is equally scandalous for unmarried heteros to do so.

Co-habitation for the purpose of engaging in homosexual activity is objectively a grave sin that cannot be routinely absolved without a change in lifestyle. The same is true for unmarried heterosexual couples.

There is no discrimination against homosexuals in the Catholic Church, and certainly no rejection of any persons, either homo or hetero.

The Catholic Chuch is rightly concerned with the matter of serious sin, and is obligated by God to charitably speak out against it.

Anyone who deliberately persists in behavior that they know is gravely sinful, is in danger of being eternally separated from God, and adopting permanent living arrangements that act to reinforce a sinful lifestyle only makes the danger more serious.

This is the truth, and this is the message that should be understood by all, whether Catholic, or not.

Of course they are Catholic, and good ones. The church that they attend obviously does not reject them and the bigger Church does not either. It says that they should not engage in homosexual activity, it does not "reject" any of Gods children. There is a difference between a person and their behavior.

I am confused with the whole chatholic religion but i have been trying to learn about it and have gotten alot of rude answers from 'straight' catholics. Gay ones have been the most respectful catholics! I have learned that most catholics pick and choose what to believe why cant theirs be that they chose not to be with a woman, sounds like they are doing great otherwise!!!!!!

They can recognize themselves as Catholics, but the Catholic Church will not (or isn't supposed to) recognize them.
