Not everyone. Some churches are so social that they forgot that church is a place to gather in His presense to honor and worship Him.They're concerned more about what everybody is wearing and who has the latest computer and electronic gadgets.
However there are some churches where the focus remains on God.

While it may be true that some people go to church for the pure social scene (note the spelling) there is a great deal of evidence to support the idea that not all of the people who go to church do so for the reasons you describe.

I think initially, most people do go to a church that has people they know (for socialization), but in the end, they continue to go to church because they enjoy it.
So regardless if they choose to go to church for socialization or other reasons, the end result is always good.
Whatever gets people in church.

There are "Country Clubs" posing as churches. There are church attenders/members seeking and trying to make it a country club. Christianity is clear that this behavior is inappropiate. In fact many churches have you covenant not to behave in this manner.

There is only one reason to go to church that is to get to know God better by intentionally spending time in a place dedicated to communion with God individually as well as with others who are open to God using them in a manner that allows you to experience God.

Some churches, some people, ya. Sad.
Now all churches, not all people. Church today was awesome! It's great to worship, pray, and be with people you can share with. It's a real learning about God experience if you can find a good one.

It's one of the lesser reasons. Church people are great for socializing with. But they mostly go there to learn.

They go to worship and learn, but social and cultural trends also cause the gossip, pride and envy.

Whatever is done in the church by whoever has nothing to do with our salvation. So, anything goes.
