16 - When I was 16 years old, I was dressed up with a sports
jacket and tie and was going to a party in Puerto Rico with a
couple of classmates. We were just messing around the hotels
with a pint of rum in our inside pocket, so we could spike our
cokes. We decided to go into the casino at 5PM. They were just
taking the covers off the tables and opening up. When we got
close to the door, we found a bouncer in the doorway - we were
supposed to be 21. My friends stopped to whisper about the
situation, but I ignored them and stopped in front of the bouncer
and lit a cigar without looking at him and walked in. I turned around a few feet later and the bouncer was running them off.
I walked over to the roulette table and told the croupier to give
me a dollars worth of chips. He told me that I had to buy at least
5 bucks to start. Ok, so after some thought, I bought 5 bucks
worth of quarter chips and placed a chip on no 16. This was in
1957. He told me that I had to play a minimum of $1. each roll,
so the ball was rolling and I quickly placed another three chips on
16. He said that I could spread them around and I told me it was
ok. The ball landed in no 16 and he pushed 35 dollars worth of
chips at me. I asked him if I could cash in at any time and he
told me yes. I am cashing in I told him - got my money and left
to join my friends with a smile that almost cracked my face apart.
A skilled croupier can hit a number like a dart player. He wont
always hit the number, but he can throw at it looking for tips. Others have no clue. I glomed onto that number and used it
many times sucessfully in my life, but if I see the croupier is
unskilled and uninterested, I leave.

mine is 17...im 90% irish and my birthday is st. patricks day (march 17). also its my number on my hockey jersey as well as my paintball jersey. my licence plate has the number 17 and its also in my license number twice...the number 17 is in my life everywhere
