I think it all depends on the intelligence level. Just for example, say everyone on earth has the IQ or intelligence of what most seven year olds have. A lot of things are going to amaze them, and there will be a lot they don't understand. Eventually they will invent god to explain these. There have been studies done, that show the more intelligent a person is, the less likely they are to believe in a god. I am not saying your average christian is a moron, but studies show people who are more intelligent, tend to be more logical, thus concluding their is no god. That being said, I think if their were intelligent aliens traveling the galaxy, religion would most likely be low on their list of priority's. I am not sure about artificial intelligence and thinking machines, because that has not been accomplished as of yet. I would think that being based in logic, religion would play a small, if nonexistent, part of their life.

An interesting question. There are neurotheologic hypotheses suggesting a biological basis for human spirituality. It may be that these things are hard-wired (functions of brain bio-chemistry) into our brains.
Psychologically, nothing frightens people more than the unknown and the unpredictable. It may be a remnant survival-tool from pre-scientific times that allowed humans to believe they understood things that they really did not understand at all.
All of today’s major religions date from times when people were mostly illiterate, uneducated and practiced either semi-nomadic herding and gathering or incipient agriculture. They are anachronistic and continue only on the momentum of thousands of years of tradition.

the key work there is intelligent...religion is a means for people to explain things in nature that they do not understand. The more science understands the universe we live in the less important religion becomes.

There is simply no way to answer this question.
For a sci-fi answer, see the new Battlestar Galactica. The Cylons HAVE formed their own religion.

perhaps, perhaps not. Our creation if a faith is a byproduct of fairly some fairly some issues: our compulsive knack for development-in seek of, desire for inner maximum meaning and purpose, expression with the aid of symbols and ceremony, and so on. it is attainable that a species might desire to show intelligence without needing those different characteristics.

Not anymore. We've advanced beyond that. Most people, if not raised in it, would realize that religion isn't real.
