There is a huge difference between business and economy, but not as much from business to first class. Check Seatguru to see the differences in seat. I listed the 777 and 747 as links. I fly mostly American Airlines and they cater a lot to their business seats so it may be different with United.

Seats: Width is pretty much the same and you will have a lot of room. Do you need full flat bed to sleep? If not, then Business is fine. Although the flat bed is more comfortable, I am ok with the one's in Business much more comfortable than Economy.

Food: That is nice $30 bottle wine you are drinking in Business instead of $100 wine in First Class. It isn't worth it to me to pay more for this. Yes you get better ammenities and food, but Business is no flake.

What is your alternative travel plans? If nothing then go, you are wasting travel time. You can travel to more places in your life time by not having to wait. Life is short have fun now...

Best of luck doing that. Last I heard that you couldn't convert your mileage into first or business class. I then told them , why have frequent flyer miles? You may want to check with your airline on this. Best of luck though.....have a great time.
