dont get them from a pet store!! instead try local breeders who say they are hand fed/raised they might be more expensive but if you really want the most enjoyment and love from a bird i'd say this is most important.african greys are the best talkers too. you wont have such a hard time teaching it , like other breeds.
when shopping dont go rushing into things..take time with the animals before you buy them look for one thats comfortable around humans. the place i got our birds from did a wonderful job and were pretty much tame comfortable and hand holdable...from the shop..check local or surounding papers...

I would go to a pet store and ask about breeders in the area.

But...there's something I want to tell you before you do. If you don't have any experience with larger parrots, Greys and Amazons are a little nippier than some of the other species. The reason is that they are so, SO intelligent, that their manipulation behaviors are a little more advanced than the others. If for a second they think that they've got you under control, they'll exploit that like there's no tomorrow. If you want a cuddly bird, Cockatoos or Macaws are more cuddly, and both talk. Grey's are very trainable, but they require attention to be good pets. Like I said, their intelligence is ridiculous for that of an animal. They're happiest when they're learning in a productive environment. Good luck!

Preuss Pets in Lansing, MI is an awesome store, and I work with the parrots there regularly. They actually have a Grey named Domino right now that's young, tame and very sweet. There's some Timneh Greys there too that are awesome as well. I don't know if Debbie would ship or not, but they do have a site online so you can look them up if you want. I bought my Greenwing Macaw baby there, and after my experience with them, I'd never buy from anyone else. They use reputable breeders, and Debbie is our local version of Sally Blanchard (a revered avian Goddess...LOL)

So...anyway...good luck.

African Greys are the best of the parrot relatives. They study a thanks to communicate and imitate all kinds of sounds very extremely. they have a tendency to communicate very fluently even once you're literally not interacting with them. Their high quality of voice is amazingly human sounding. Many speaking birds do not communicate this obviously. also they're able to comprehend many of the words if worked with and are able to answering questions properly if worked with. They do stay to easily about one hundred years previous so there are frequently "used" Greys accessible. verify the internet. those birds will in all likelihood have a great vocabulary already and keep getting to understand in the time of their existence. inspite of the indisputable fact that you should be particular they don't have habit issues. many of the time they received't. the most important challenge with Greys is they (alongside with cockatoos) have the worst challenge with hypersensitive reactions because their dander is finer and floats contained in the air worse than maximum birds. (they're powder formers). strong success.

Go to your local pet store and ask them. SOme of them do, but some dont.
Usually most pet stores have young birds. Like 2 weeks ago i called a pet store clsoeby to ask them if they have cockatiels. They told me that they were getting handfed and will be ready by a month. That was like a big petstore. So just go to a big petstore such as petsmart, super pets..etc

Try this breeder:
www.bignestaviary.com

She is located in Texas (She will ship, though) and I know she sells hand fed baby greys. You would still have to teach it to talk, but the fact that they are hand fed makes training lots easier... It's really a great site, even just for some information.

Check out some bird ads in your newspaper. Look at pet shops or bird rescues centers. Sometimes older birds are the way to go. I prefer older birds as pets. You know that they know how to talk.
