Why do those same people think that not agreeing with their opinions means that you're persecuting them?
Poor education, low IQ, or mental illness?

The Church is the bride of Christ, comprised of all those that believe in Him. I think the criticism is more often of the people and different denominations than the Church as a whole.

Oh absolutely. I am a born again christian believer and I have seen myself and other Christians become very offended at criticism of the church, thinking it was criticism of God. Most the time I think I'm pretty good and discerning the difference, but sometimes my little self righteous attitude rears it's ugly head. I think we all have the ability to let ourselves get puffed up and upset. The "church" has internal problems. They are "in house" most of the time and don't worry, there are enough of us self righteous christians out there that it usually gets taken care of in house. For those not in the church, as long as they are not breaking the law...it's really none of their business. I'm not going to go into a mens only golf club and gripe about it. I'm not in it and don't care to be...so none mah bizness!

If a church is teaching the true word of God, and uses it as the guide line of life the way it was created, it is not the church that criticize the sinner, for they are just the messenger of that word, and it is the Word of God that convicts the heart of those who are not doing the will of God.
If hearing the word of God makes a person squirm in their seat in Church, it is God that is tugging at the heart of the problem from inside you, yet people always accuse the messenger, be it the preacher, or a witness, of being judgmental of them.
The truth of the matter is when you hear the word of God and it makes you uncomfortable and uneasy, it is doing what God intended it to do , and that is make you see the error of your ways. God only does this because He loves you.
Don't blame those who love and care for you enough to share the word of God with you the way He instructs us to do with others.

Because God is an instrument of the church. It is like that song "Love and Marriage" you can't have one without the other.

It's a way for Christians and other religious nuts to reassure themselves their fantasy that they believe in so fanatically is the absolute-unchallengeable truth.
