A guy told me he was looking to settle down. I told him I really liked him but wasn’t ready to date. After 3 months I told him although I still wasn‘t ready to date, but I wanted to see him. He asked about a friends with benefits. I was afraid & asked him to be patient and take it slow with me. He said okay but then said he didn’t "think it was a good idea to get together that night". Surprised, I asked what he thought I meant. He said getting to know one another and being friends first.

Later, I told him I felt rejected. He said he respected me. He said I was an “easy target” and he could have taken advantage because he thought "highly of me" he chose not to. Even though I changed my mind about FwB, we still about our families, the holidays, work etc… If he respected me why would he call me an “easy target?”

The fact that he felt he could have been with you that night and chose not to tells me that he does respect you. By "easy target" it sounds as though he meant that he knew you would sleep with him. I also think that because he's been waiting for you to be ready rather than push you into something you're not ready for, it signifies respect.

I wish you luck with him

Whew, that's a tough situation.

Sounds like he knows you'd give in if he pressed hard enough. I get a bad "vibe" about this person though. Something's not right. Watch yourself with him. I could be wrong though, just an odd feeling I'm getting. He could actually be one of the very few respectible guys left. Just take it slow and don't let him do mind games with you, which I've a feeling he's good at. Especially manipulation.
