You don't need to but it could help. Although it's the swallowing that helps so sucking a sweet works just as well, as you take off or land. I also use 'Ear Planes' which are like ear plugs which I put in to take off and land as it helps stop your ears hurting.

Some people experience problems more than others so you may be okay. I would just take some sweets to suck as you go up just in case, or some gum, but if you don't it likely won't be a huge problem. Yours ears may 'pop' and some people (rare i think but my sister does) get headaches and sinus type pain because of it. Won't last long though.

You don't *need* to. Some folks find it more comfortable to do so, but that's personal preference. I had 64 flights last year for work and didn't chew gum on a single one. Bring a stick or two in case you're one of those folks who prefer it, or to see if it makes you more comfortable, but it's definitely not something that every person needs to do.

I always do when I fly. It helps with the pressurization and keeps ears from feeling clogged.

I agree with your first answer. It's only when they pressurize and depressurize when you need to "pop" your ears. This is usually done at take offs and landings.

No not at all. You don't need to chew it. But, you can.
