Ok i dont want this to offend anyone... This whole religion thing I dont get it. I was raised in a home where it was my grandmother who took us all to church and made us wear our best of everything. I dont remember every word of the bible but i always thought god didnt care about those things why should it be that way?
Now my son is in catholic school (because of his fathers side) and I can not honestly understand anything religious when it come to relating to him in this way.
I dont understand anything of it, from going to heaven (doesnt everyone go because they are all forgiven?) to why we wear our best clothes? I really dont get it if god were real why do we have so much pain and suffering in the world?
Dont get me wrong i believe in a creator but not in this jesus person.
Can you give me some real insight?? HELP

You are a human being endowed with the capacity to think and be conscious of your self. As you see the objects, feel the objects, smell the fragrance, hear the sound from out side your body, for a while make your self the object and try to feel yourself, hear from within, smell yourself sitting quietly and try to feel your own presence and withdraw your mind and senses totally from out side. Feel your self.
Let the knower be the knowledge. Let the reader be a book for her own reading by closed eyes. Let the thinker be her thought. You will gradually experience consciousness and that is God's presence. You are pure and it is easier for you to realise God. Do not read Bible which is full of unconfirmed stories and not explained scientifically. You do not require a Prophet to tell you what is God. God is something to be realised by yourself. Wearing the best clothes is only a preparation with intent to make a proper ambiance from within. But it is all in mind, including cleanliness and decency.

That sounds really profound.
Honestly, there are SO MANY religions out there and they don't all believe the same thing but one thing they have in common is the belief in that entity that watches over them. Of course, you don't have believe everything your religion teaches. (It's already been modified a billiion times through the centuries anyway).
Almost nobody follows the Bible, Kohran, Vedas etc. or ANY religious book to the letter. So, you don't have to either. People even have different ways of following the same overall faith. There're different sects within Christians, so really, you don't HAVE to wear your "best of everything". How you practice a faith depends on you and the way you're raised to practice it.
Everyone wonders about their God(s) and about how they/he/she functions and takes care of the world.
The important thing if you have a religion is just to have a sense of spirituality. And if that gives you a sense of fulfillment, then that's all you need; the reason most humans even have a faith is to draw strength from it when they're desperate so if that works for you, then there's nothing left that you have to "get" or understand.
I hope this helps...

Would you wear your scrubs if you knew you were about to meet the President of the United States that you most respect? Or would you dress up in your finest? God is the Creator of the whole Universe! Doesn't it make sense to look your best for that? True, God doesn't care how you dress, but most of what we are supposed to do is for our own benefit.
Heaven is God's home. Do you admit strangers and people who hate you into your home? Then why should God?
If you don't accept forgiveness, how can you be forgiven? And since forgiveness comes through the work of that Jesus person, denying Him denies His work, and makes His forgiveness unavailable to you.
Pain and suffering are not a part of God's Plan. We do that to ourselves. Even earthquakes and storms are only painful because of where and how men have chosen to live. Don't be so anxious to blame God.

You don't get all of religion? None of it?
It sounds like you have a problem with Church. Remember, there are many different religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc) and within Christianity there are many different denominations (Southern Baptist, Quaker, Roman Catholic, United Church of Christ.) And then there's agnosticism.
If you really want to understand Religion in general, why not try to find a Religious group that matches your beliefs? One great resource I love recommending is the belief-o-matic on beliefnet.com. Maybe you could find a church that doesn't ask you to wear your scratchiest clothes, or hope other people will be sorry after they die?

I can see what your saying. I agree with you from the point that if there was heaven then whats the deal if we're forgiven. I would say that now Im much more spiritual than religious. I think as long as I have a believe that I have a creator and that I can have the best things for myself and beyond what i can comprehend as long as i work towards it then thats fine. I try to improve on myself and help others then what more can anyone ask for.

If you believe in a creator type thingie (some sort of supernatural being), then you are a theist of some sort. Many of the Founding Fathers of the US were Deist, a form of theism, that sounds a lot like what you seem to believe.
I'd say do some research and try to understand what you really believe, and ignore the false threats out there that you're going to hell if you don't believe religion A, B, or C.

I believe God is energy and this energy sparked the big bang and everything that followed. to me God is energy, we are energy and everything else that is natural.
I believe in taking the positive out of every religion, i love learning about religion although i cant trust one as far as i could throw it, i instead take what i like, like karma for instance, or buddhist meditation. religion only offers good moral guidance and this is echoed by all the religions. you are probably the person you are today because of the morals bestowed on you by your parents.
i also believe deeply that people go to war because they want to control each other and this in turns controls their energy flow, stealing their energy. have you ever been shouted at and afterwards felt weakened and seen the other person looking full of energy, this is because they have stolen your energy. people become addicted to stealing energy in different ways. war starts when one side is trying to control the energy of the other and the other retaliates and this causes conflict. i really suggest you read this book as it changed my life and the way i look at it. The Celestine Prophecy - James Redfield. if your looking for an insight into why the worlds how it is.

Grandma- out of whack, don't need to wear BEST clothing but at least something nice.
Everyone doesn't go to Heaven because there is only one Creator, our Maker.
Pain and suffering- God allows it to happen to us (Satan is the one who does it to us), but God provides a "way out" by allowing us to confess our sins/pray to Him in hard times and good.
If you believe in a Creator (therefore THE Creator) then you believe in Jesus, because He, the Son, is part of the Godhead (Father, Spirit, Son)

ok look the reason we have pain and suffering is so that we can learn from it and so that we will learn to appreciate the things in life if JESUS wasnt real then honey you wouldnt be here and niether would your son or any of the rest of the people in the world you need JESUS and thats a fact everyone does try prying for a change if you dont belive in GOD and the HOLY TRINITY (God the Father,Jesus the Son, and the HOLY SPIRIT) then God will find a way to turn your life around and you will belive either that or you gooing straight to HELL
