Where does the Bible give a list of all the things that are considered sins? Like the 10 Commandments? I'm confused because I thought there were cut-and-dry rules everyone knew for what was and wasn't a sin (like the 10 Commandments), but then people are saying "look at this story in the bible; this story means X is a sin and you will go to hell for X" even if X doesn't fall under the 10 Commandments. And isn't there some other part of the bible where God tells people what's good and bad to do?

In order to avoid sinning, do I need to be an expert on the Bible and read and interpret the entire thing correctly to know what will and will not send me to Hell? Or is there a list of all the sins that I need to avoid, and as long as I follow that list, I'll be fine?

Wow... I was very surprised at the resounding answer that "sins don't matter, the thing that gets you into Heaven is accepting Jesus and rejecting him is what keeps you out."

I had no idea it would be so straightforward. I was expecting some scholarly types to discuss difference between actual bible teachings, teachings of Jesus, and dogma created by officials of the Church, etc.

But nope! Simple clear message!

I guess all that remains is... as long as a person holds Jesus dear in their hearts, what prevents them from sinning-- if accepting Jesus is all you need to do to go to Heaven, what keeps believers from sinning? I always thought society was controlled by the threat of Heaven and Hell but apparently this isn't so. Why not sin?

You arn't going to hell for specific sins. you are condemned for the attitude of your heart. Thats the message. In a paraphrased sort of manner it is this: accept the fact that you have messed up, accept the fact that Jesus died so that you didn't have to pay the price for that mess up, do your best to do as Jesus did, live. The commandments are in Exodus 20. No one, No one other than Jesus could fully keep them. WE are to try our best to keep them and know by our failure that we do need God.

There is one sin that GOD won't forgive,
blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which is the
Spirit of GOD.
The Ten Commandments cover a lot. If we follow
them we are trying.
It's good to read GOD'S WORD. Then you will know
it for yourself. Pray for understanding when you read it.
Start with the first book of the King James Bible,
Genesis, this book was written by GOD using the
hand of Moses. That really touched me, because
Moses spent a lot of time with GOD.
Then read the New Testament- Matthews, and learn
about Jesus Christ.
To be saved, repent of your sins,
and accept Jesus Christ as your Savior.
" No man come to the FATHER,
but through the SON ".
Amen
MAY GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU.

Revelation 21 v.8
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." 5 He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." 6 He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

also the Book of Proverbs lists the 7 deadly sins.....
Proverbs 6.16-19
16 There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.
these things can be detrimental to a Christian's spiritual development and growth in Christ.

But we can be forgiven for our sins and know God's love and mercy in our hearts
Hell doesn't have to be where we end up and we can live and reign with Jesus forever.

John 14.6 "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except by me."

Romans 10.9-11 "9 If you use your mouth to say, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. 10 We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we use our mouths to say that we believe, and so we are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed."

Hope that helps.

You have received some Bad Information!

SIN is the Root = Sins are the Fruit!

The Only Sin that you will go to Hell for is UNBELIEF in the finished work of Christ Jesus!

(Hebrews 10:29-30-31) Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

(Heb 10:30) For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

(Heb 10:31) It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Sins are a Result of Disobeying the Law of GOD! But the ROOT is our Sinful Nature! That is why Jesus said, [John 3] YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN! [John 7:38-39]

Many will Use Scare Tactics to change the Outward Actions = when in fact = WE NEED A NEW HEART!

Thanks, RR

There is only one thing that will send you to hell and that is denying Jesus Christ as your Savior. Jesus went to the cross to take away our sins because Jesus (God) knew we could not keep the 10 Commandments that are listed in Exodus 20 or all the statutes listed in Leviticus. You can't be good enough to earn eternal life. That's why Jesus came. Jesus gave us the free gift of eternal life. All we need to do is surrender our life to Him, believe what He did for us on the Cross of Calvary (death, burial and resurrection) and we are saved. We are born again. The Holy Spirit comes inside of us and the Holy Spirit starts purifying and refining us. The Holy Spirit tells us what sins must be dealt with and as we read God's word the Holy Spirit teaches us the Word of God. The Holy Spirit within us is the teacher and the comforter. What God starts in us, He is more than able to finish. The Holy Trinity is God the Father, the Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit known as the Godhead. We serve a powerful God, the only True God.

I've been reading the Bible, God's Holy Word for decades and I'm not an expert as yet. If you ever find a preacher or priest who calls himself an expert on the Bible, then you are in heaven and Christ has already explained everything in His Bible to him. There are layers of learning to God's word.

Find you a good Bible teaching church and surrender your life to Christ by a public confession of your sins. I've done this and been baptized, but stay in God's word and read it daily. Pray before reading and ask for discernment-understanding. The Holy Spirit loves to teach the word of God. He teaches so well that it is almost as if the Word comes alive to you. Jesus says my yoke is easy, my burden is light. Remember, after surrendering your life to Christ you may sin again. Don't beat yourelf up, confess your sin, repent and go on with life. The Holy Spirit will rid you of your sins. And count all trials as joy. God chastens and disciplines those He loves. So when trouble comes just go through it and know that you are going to be able to get through it because Christ is with you. He never leaves us or forsakes us.
When Christ is for us who can be against us. You are a child of the Living God.

Umm, no, there's no list other than perhaps the 10 Commandments. What the Bible will do is show you every possible scenario that will pertain to your life and show you the correct path to follow. When you experience something and don't know which way to turn, turn to your Bible and find out what to do in that particular case.

Yeah, the Bible does take a whole lifetime to understand, but grace is easy, and it's grace that gets you into Heaven.

Wow...There is not a "list" of all sins in the bible, but by reading and studying the bible, it will give direction on how to conduct ourselves within the holy realm of God. It also, demonstrates how we can be forgiven for those sins we do or will commit. If it will help, I suggest for your to obtain a bible in the NIV version. This translation will probably help you understand the bible a little better. Bless You!

sorry, but there is no list of sins. and, unfortunately, most things that humans do are sins. but we were born in a sinful world and sin is in our nature. i do believe that it is impossible for us not to sin. now, this doesn't give us an excuse to do bad things, but it is the truth. there is no sin that garuntees your entry to hell. you can't go to hell for doing something, but that also means you can't go to heaven unless you repent. i think you will know what a sin is when you do it. a sin even occurs every time we have an impure thought, which for lots of people happens every second. but if you repent - if you tell God that you know that you have done wrong and ask Him to forgive you, then all can be right again. i find myself asking for forgiveness everyday, because i know that everyday i must disappoint my Father. but everyday i can also live with the comfort that God loves me, has forgiven me, and will someday take me away from the sin in our world.

It's not so much about what you'd go to hell for doing rather than what you'd go to hell for for not doing, and with rather less emphasis on the doing bit.

Let me explain, firstly as you've noticed there are more sins than you can shake a stick at, there are not just the 10 Commandments, but literaly hundreds of laws to follow.

Secondly, even the ones we thought we could easily keep, like "Do not murder", Jesus tells us that we break it whenever we have hate in our hearts toward someone.

Jesus also tells us that it's not just difficult to get right with God by keeping these laws, it's quite simply impossible, we all fall short of Gods standards. We can't earn our way into heaven we must recieve it as a gift.

Fortunately for us, God has provided the means by which we can all be saved from hell, by accepting that God has already paid for all our sins through the blood of His Son Christ Jesus, who died on the cross for us all. He received the punishment for all our sins so that we need not be punished for them.

What we must do is repent of our sins so that Jesus death (for each of us) was not in vain and believe on Jesus as our Savior making Him Lord of our lives, bodies & souls. If we believe in Him in true repentance, we are given a renewed spirit and are Born Again in Christ.

As for having to be an expert in order to avoid sining, once born again we are guided by God's Expert, the conviction of His Holy Spirit, that we might turn from sin and follow Jesus.

What then must we do to prepare for this? the answer is nothing. God wants us just as we are. He'll accept allcomers and in any condition, if they will truely repent and believe in Jesus, why? because He loves us. Once the kingdom of God lives inside of us He will set about changing us.

Sin is just basically disobedience to anything God tell us to do.

There are certain sins listed in the Bible, like murder, lying, fornication, stealing, but there are also sins of the tongue, and sins of the mind like when Jesus said, "if you even look at a woman and lust in your heart (this is in the mind) then you have committed adultery." But the thing is sin is not the end, God made a way for us even though every man ever born has sinned, we can't escape that, we will all sin and God knows it so He made a way for us, it's called FORGIVENESS through Jesus Christ.

Whatever fear you have about sinning against the Lord, there is a remedy, it's recognition that you have sinned and that you will sin in the future, and whatever punishment that you are afraid of, the Lord has provided relief for you, because Jesus Christ took the punishment for you, for ALL your sins, and therefore you don't have to be punished for your sins, you are forgiven because of what Jesus did for you, and so when you sin, you rest in what is done for you.

The Bible says in Romans that God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. In Romans 6 it says "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[b] Christ Jesus our Lord."

John 16:9 - Jesus said: "The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me."

Acts 13:38-“Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins.

1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins to the Lord, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

John 1:29[ Jesus, the Lamb of God ] The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
