The only legal download sites that I know of are places with the artist's permission.

Limewire, Grokster, Morpheus, Kazaa, Emule, WarezP2P, Ares and the like all are used to share music without the permission of the author and for that, the recording industry is gonig ballistic and randomly pulling up information of random people on those programs and suing them one at a time.

Please try these websites for music that is there with legal permission.

http://music.download.com

http://mp3.com

http://ccmixter.org

http://music.aol.com

http://weirdal.com

http://archive.org

Don't want you to get in trouble.

Downloading music illegally can get you sued for lots of money.

There are a lot of places where you can get free music legally.

Indie bands tends to give away a couple tracks on their websites, check bands on myspace.com as well, and of course there is the iTunes Store which has a number of tracks for free each week.

If you are looking for free tracks from major artists, good luck, I doubt you'll find it legally. Most "p2p" and "filesharing" is illegal (bearshare, limewire, etc).

Hope this helps!

Downloading music for free is STEALING. Without royalty money, artists can't continue to create music. It's no different than shoplifting form a store.
