The other day, one friend emailed myself and several other friends about getting together to hang out in a week. I replied to his question, then told everyone on the email list that, by the way, I had just gotten a new job (after several months of unemployment), and was pretty excited about it.

Several people didn't say congratulations or anything at all! I'm a little hurt and a little ticked, especially as these are people I've had over to my place and given two hour rides in my car.

Does anyone think the lack of response was rude, or am I overreacting?

I think your overreacting a little bit. It's sort of rude to expect a 'congratulations' actually. I bet when you mention it in person, people will share your happiness. Often, with email, people read them and then forget about them. Don't take it personally, and if you want to share this via email and get responses, you should send out your own email with that as it's subject. Sticking it into a 'get together' email is another reason why you didn't get replies, it's a second subject to an email that's really about getting together, you know?

Well, they might not have replied because maybe they were busy, or they had a family emergency. They might of been rude maybe because they were jealous that you got a job. But, wait a little bit longer to see if they reply. You should take into consideration that they might of not meant to not reply to you, they just have had something else going on at the time.

People tend to read their email as much as some of us do. Start calling some of them by phone and tell them the news. You'll be able to tell whether or not they read the email. If they did and hadn't said anything to you, kindly say, "Hey, aren't you happy for me?!" If they still are pretty non-responsive, guess what - they weren't really your friend to begin with and it's time to remove them from the "list'.

It can be rude sometimes but it also seems like a lot of mail was being sent. It can be hard to reply to everything and sometimes people dont realize how important something is to you

I think you should toughen up a little. You sound like my 14 year old girl. Maybe if you didn't whine so much more people would join you!

Its annoying to flood people boxes with reply to all.

If everybody did what you did; i.e., reply to all, there would be a flood of e-mails. U are overreactiong
