ADHD is usually something younger kids have. You are seeking attention from authority figures in your life like your teachers, school and parents.
At 17, hate to say it, but it's time to grow up! You seem to have control over yourself just fine. It seems you can't stand not having control over everyone else.
You can't KNOW you have ADHD because it is not an illness, it is a mental state and medications for it are all basically stimulants so why don't you try expresso every day if you think you need something to "help" you along.
You didn't say anything about how much physical activity you get and you should be working out your anger running or biking or something; this too will help you concentrate. You also might find something you like doing and focus on that; look for things that will lead to a career.

Try going to your school counselor. Tell them that you really want help but it feel like no one will give it to you. After you turn 18, it won't be up to your parents about whether or not you get medication. It will be up to you. Maybe ask your school counselor to get some extra help in school. As for the cutting thing, I've been a cutter too. It can be the hardest thing in the world to ask for help, but sometimes it just needs to be done. I'm pretty sure the government (in the US anyway) has some kind of policy where parents have to get their kids help if they need it. If you tell them you cut...they might take it more seriously. Cutting is not stupid and neither are you. It just a last resort because sometimes...you forget you're alive..or no one can hear you when you ask for help. But there really are people that hear you. There are people that care and there are people who would even slit their own wrist for you. Sometimes life feels like we're stuck. We can't go back and we can't go forward.....but we do. And sometimes it feels like all we EVER do is get through things..but its the little things that make it worth it. Every moment I spend laughing with my friends makes me happy I never took my life. You'll get through this. You must have already been through a lot which proves your strong. Your strong enough to get past this. And it'll be worth every tear in the end if you wait long enough. I promise.

I have a problem that's pretty similar to yours. I used to be a gifted student too w/ the highest IQ in my elementary school, but in 10th grade my grades started to slip from emotional problems, I couldn't concetrate on my work, and I had loads of stress from my parents... They always expected me to get straight A's, so when I got B's, C's, and D's all of a sudden, they freaked out. I got tested for learning disabilities earlier this schoolyear, and found I had ADD. It's been really hard for me because I'm medicine sensitive and haven't found a medication that works yet. =( I totally understand what you're going through in terms of feeling as if you can't control aspects of your life. I sometimes feel like I'm faulted and broken... I try to concentrate and do my work, but I can't.
I also have a friend whose parents are Christian Scientist. They also don't believe in medication, so she had to suffer through mono without seeing a doctor. Her problem is a bit different, because she wants to break away from her parent's ways since they want her to go to a strict conservative christian college, but she's agnostic. At the moment she's trying to officially cut off all ties w/ her parents through a court case. That way they won't be her legal guardians anymore, and she can do whatever she wants. She's also 17. I don't know if you want to consider doing the same or not, but her parents stress her out so much that it's for the better.
I really reccomend talking to your school psychologist. I started doing that earlier this week, and it made me feel a lot better. Somebody was actually willing to listen to my life's problems! That's definitely a first for me. =) Also, take some time off to do something you enjoy. My escape from stress is through videogames, and it really helps. You'll be free from your parents in a year too, just try to think ahead. You'll be able to get treatment then, and life will surely get better for you.
Hope that helped =)

i might fairly have a stability of the two. I even tend to have confidence that a communication might desire to be approximately 50/50. What incredibly makes a communication relaxing, besides the shown fact that, is an exciting subject remember. i like the variety of communication that truly makes me think of. no remember if it incredibly is designing the assumption for the subsequent substantial video game, speaking approximately NASA's next rocket layout, attempting to discover a thank you to apply Skype to deliver malware, designing a short tale or determining if there is any advantage to superstar Trek's warp concept, i like a communication that digs deeper than what excessive high quality climate we are having, and avoids all the consumer-friendly chatter in desire of thought-stimulating conversations.

Most 17 year olds if not most teenagers feel out of control it is the age. You need to seriously get some help, cutting is bad news and the scars will be with you forever. My 2 oldest children are both in Honors Advanced Gifted classes and they also get overwhelmed but that is when you need someone to talk to if not your parents than find someone. My prayers are with you.

First of all you are a very smart girl! and I'm glad you are asking for help despite your parents being unsupportive. I think you need to speak to a proffessional, try your guidance councillor and see if there is anything they can offer you through the school. It's unfair for them to kick you out in my opinion, but if they are that unsupportive, maybe you will find a place to stay with people that are supportive and can help you. You are obviously very smart and although you may not want to try medications, ask your Dr. if there is anything else they can offer, there may be a therapist in your area that specify's in a.d.h.d. Try looking it up online as well. I feel for you. Good Luck

try school counselor to talk to. if your parents dont believe in ADHD and mental illness, they are doing you a disservice. You NEED treatment. do you have health insurance? try going to a clinic somewhere. how soon will you turn 18? you can get help w/o your parents consent at school. your situation sounds similar to my history. turns out i'm bi-poloar. why not look that up too. it is very disruptive to everyday life. good luck. dont give up. and DONT cut yourself! TRY.

Andrea, I'm sooo sorry about your problem! I don't know of anything I could possibly do, seeing as how I can't meet you and that your parents won't let you get medicaton.
However, please try talking to your parents about this. If it's ruining your life, then they should understand. Do everything you can to make them listen, just remember to be nice about it which I'm sure you will be<333
I wish you all the luck in the world and I'm gonna hope everything goes well for you!!!<3333

Well unless you decide you want your life to amount to something you'll be doomed to the sort of aimless existence you describe. Like it or lump it you've got this hand of cards and you've got to play it. Get through school the best you can then get the h*ll out of your house. Get a job and live to the best of your ability. Sorry I don't have a pretty answer but sometimes that's the best it gets. Good luck.....
