cereals, juices, and bread/bagels are also usually available, but when I was having a continental breakfast, the main food was baskets and baskets fullof hot and crunchy (not soft like here in the US) croissants with small packets of various preserves
cheese is available in small quantities at breakfast time

The first answer is correct. it is croissant, maybe a bit of fRENCH BREAD ( BAGUETTE) , some butter, jam and a hot drink. This is as opposed to cooked breakfast...
