Two things: The Arctic National Preserve would be so drilled for oil and in return, the cost of staples we export like soybeans and wheat would probably rise equally.

I guess I am still wondering where the $9.50 amt. came from why $9.50 - Why not $10? The solution would lie in the reasons for the increase. Your premise is off.
Americans get pegged for being wasteful when the fact is we are busy. We endure long commutes to find personally satisfying and rewarding jobs. We play hard too, we travel for leisure extensively.
We use large vehicles to transport families and friends comfortably . Have you ever tried to transport furniture or a xmas tree in an economy size car? Leisure and useful work leads to a robust economy. If we had to change our lifestyles to accommodate high gas prices and stagnate economies we would become Europe or Canada.

Well it's not going to happen as lots of Americans are far to selfish to pay that much. Also, there are several silly comments on here about Americans needing Bigger cars WHY?
Is just because they are all lard *** fatties?

One thing is for sure IF they HAD to Pay @ $10 maybe they might push for more GREEN fuels and synthetics and advance a bit in a sensible direction.

Personally I pay a lot for fuel (UK) but I would be prepared to pay more as long as it secured our future on this planet.

They act the same way as the Brits. Moan and gripe about it but not do anything. It also depends on where you are in the states. The West coast, they'd boycott and protest and create alternative methods of fuel.
People are the same everywhere you. It is our minds and our societies which create the differences.
