You are cutting it close on the ram, but I think it will run. What ever you do, don't install windows me. That was quite possibly the worst "operating" system ever released. You want to aim for about 128-256mg of ram to match the specs you have listed up there. You do meet the system requirements set by microsoft, but they set the bar so low that it really isnt feasible to run of their requirements. My suggestion is to go ahead and install 2000, if it runs fast enough for you then good. If it does not, then add more ram :)

WHATEVER the others said, you're bound to Windows 98!!

You could install Millenium, but that OS is buggy; besides Microsoft dropped it years ago! Don't do that!

XP requires a (much) larger hard disk than the one your computer is equipped with. So, unfortunately, XP will fail to install.

Windows 2000 requires 64 Mb RAM; although it is stable, nice and faster than XP, your computer is short on RAM - and 2000 will refuse to install!

In case you can't have that larger hard disk, you are bound to Windows 98! REALLY! (It's Windows 98 C the best '98 release which you can buy from e-bay for a couple of bucks.)

As for Vista... you'd better stay away for it - even if you will buy a state of the art computer! It's sluggish, resource-wasting, works on prefferencially-selected monitors and is full of intrussion britches; they want to spy our every move with Vista! Really!

Don't fall for XP on 64 bits either - or you'll be no longer able to run older applications. There is no upwards compatibility in other words.

Your best bet for the next few years is XP-Home / mediacenter - I think.

How long and what do you intend to do with this computer?
Have you seen the price of a new box? They are really comming down, and you could get a used one.
The other thing with this comptuer, is that it will be getting difficult to do any upgrading, especially RAM.
In the meantime, keep your eyes on new boxes, start finding sources for used machines, they will perform much better for you when you can afford one.

Otherwise, install Windows 2000, do not goto WinME.

Believe it or not, this computer would run Windows XP just fine; however, I would recommend using 2000 for best performance. Don't use ME because it was extremely buggy. 2000 is a nice stable platform and I think you'll enjoy it. Overall, the computer isn't horrible...couple cheap upgrades and you'd be able to run Vista even. Good luck!

I think you can upgrade your Windows 98 to Windows Me without formating your C drive and without loosing your data.

one you need more memory.... now days you need at least 129 megs or more... i have windows xp and i had to have 129mb of memory for it to properly run... vista you need over 500mb of memory for it to even run on your computer... and a 32bit graphics card... xp should install once you upgrade your memory. memory if you shop right can be no much. depends how and where you shop...
