Get a finch or a canary. Its not in the parrot family though. The only thing you will need to give it is food, water and keep the cage clean. Canaries sing very well and are not very loud. Even finches. Zebra finches make very good pets.

my daughter had a love bird that had been hand fed until we purchased her so she readily accepted us and could be handled. The mess of the cage had to be swept up daily but wasn't a big chore. The bird would chirp and chatter but was not loud and obnoxious like bigger birds can be. We loved the sound. I would not buy a bird from anyone accept places who have great expertise with them as you will need to know how to care for your bird and there is nothing like having a real person to help you out. When we bought our bird, the store had us bring her back in a couple of days to weigh her to make sure she was making the adjustment fine. We actually had picked her out before she was old enough to come home with us and they urged us to regularly come and handle her until that time. They weren't about pushing pets out the door for $$$, they wanted serious bird owners for there animals. Good luck in you search. I would heartily recommend a hand fed tame lovebird. By the way, I hear that if you get two lovebirds, they will pay their attention to each other and not want to interact with humans.

Any bird you get needs a lot of attention every single day!
They need flying time out of tehir cage, at least 2 hours a day but the more the better.
If you only have one you will need to spend as much time as possible, at least a few more hours a day interacting with it!
They need a varied diet, more then just seed and water! They need daily fruit and veggies as well as other types of food.
They need a large cage, as big as you can afford! And many many toys because birds are smart and can get bored easily.
The cage needs cleaning out daily. The seed and water needs changing daily and any fresh foods need to be taken out and replaced every couple of hour.
Birds also need to have access to unfiltered sunlight ever now and again. You will need to take the bird and it's cage to into the sun for a few hours and stay with it the whole time, so nothing happens to it (some wild types of birds like butcher birds stick tehir beaks through the cage cars to kill the birds inside, this is only one of the dangers)
Birds also need to be taken to the vet just like ever other pet.
Healthy budgies can live for 15 years, cockateils for 30 and some of teh larger parrots can live for up to 70 years.
If you want to own finches then I'd advise getting an aviary as they make better aviary birds and it is better for them then living in an inside cage their whole lives.
Al birds take a lot of care, no matter how small they are. I have budgies and they are not easy to care for, no matter what anyone says. However, if you are willing to take the responsibility and properly care for your birds then they make wonderful and lovely pets.
If you are willing to do all this for your birds then I would suggest Budgies, although get more then one if you possibly can and have a large enough cage. They are so cute and adorable and seeing them interact together is amazing! Cockateils are also great, as are love birds. If you want one which will interact with you then try to get a hand raised one. This does not mean that it will stay tame if you ignore it, but it will make th taming process so much easier.
If you feel you cannot fulfill all of these responsibilities and more (I only stated the things I could think of off the top of my head..), then please do not get a bird.
Get a fish tank and fill it with beautiful and wonderful fish. I have a fish take too and they actually are quite lovely pets.
No birds is easy to take care of, although they are worth all of the trouble. Please do a lot of research and think long and hard before getting one.
One of the saddest things I've ever seen is a single lonely budgie sitting in it's badly shaped cage day after day with two perches, no flying room and the same toy which is never replaced, getting fat and sick off an all seed diet and no exercise, rarely if ever moving from it's tiny caged prison. Seeing, eating and doing the exact same things day after day for it's entire life.
I have seen it all to often. The people who do this aren't cruel or mean, they just don't understand the responsibilities of owing a bird.
If you are willing to take on the responsibilities, then i wish you the best of luck! I really hope you and your soon to be new bird fried have a happy and wonderful life together!

Uh, let me just say this: ANY animal is a commitment. A bird is exceptionally easy to care for---any kind (parrots require more attention) but finches, canaries & parakeets are very easy to care for. If you are too busy to take a few minutes a day to give the bird feed, fresh water, and change the cage every couple of days---YOU do NOT need a pet. 'Nuff said.

They all take a alot of care, attention and love- to get a bird just for show is selfish- to answer your question though a parrot that requires the least attention is a budgie (parakeet)-If you are not going to be interacting with it a lot of if you are going to leave it alone most of the time then get two males.

All birds require care and alot of attention - so I would stick with something small...like a lovebird, parakeet, cockatiel, etc. Don't purchase a parrot if you aren't willing to spend alot of time with them b/c they are very demanding. I currently own three tropical parrots, I've owned parakeets, I've got a lovebird, a lime green African Ringneck parakeet, and 4 cockatiels now! lol.

A good bird to have is a parakeet. All they need is a cage food water, etc. They arn't very friendly though.
If you want one that is fun but needs a but more work, is a cockatoo. They need the basic necessities but just need a lot of attention and a bigger cage. Unlike the Parakeet.
You could also buy a finch or a dove, doves are primaraly low mantenence, like a parakeet. Finches are like parakeets but need a nest because they like to lay eggs.
