Unless you've got a lot of time on your hands & are willing to spend time every day grooming your cat, then I'd avoid a Persian or HImalyan (a colour-pointed longhair) - though I do think that some of the Chinchillas look absolutely stunning (one of the James Bond baddies had a Chinchilla)

The golden ones are gorgeous too ...

Though to be honest, most long-haired cats may require some sort of daily grooming ... it's just that some are more prone to matting that others.

In the source is a website where you can click to compare various breeds of cat - it gives information on their probably personalities & care requirements - as well as a photo - so you may find it useful.

As a general guide, if you'd like a cat with darker head, legs & tail than its body (known as 'pointed') have a look for a Himalyan or Colourpoint Persian Longhair, a Ragdoll, a Birman or a Balinese. Though, it really does depend on your personal preferences which you'd find the most pretty. Almost everyone will agree that Ragdolls & Birmans are lovely. But not everyone likes the squashed flat features of a Persian or the elongated, foreign head shape of a Balinese.

If you'd like a cat with a stunning ticked coat, available in a range of shades (these are gorgeous cats) have a look at a Somali.

If you'd like a really large cat - probably with the most easy to care for coat - try a Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest Cat.

For a really unusally coloured semi-longhair cat try the Tiffanie.

And there is also a white cat, with a coloured tail & small patches of colour on the head (most often auburn) - the Turkish Van

After you've had a browse of the websites & maybe borrowed a book on cat breeds from the library. I'd also check out to see what is available near you & the prices before making a final decision.... buying a cat magazine is good idea too as there will be loads of classified ads in the back.

I'd also recommend visiting a cat show - you get the chance to see them all & chat with their owners.

As for me - I think they're all lovely ... I'd like one of each please ... especially that golden Chinchilla,Prince....

Rag Dolls are so cute and fluffy but oh so stupid.
They are affectionate floppy things who really shouldn't be allowed out on their own for their own safety. Thick isn't the word for it.

Alternatively go to a pet rescue centre and pick a lovely fluffy one from there. A word of warning fluffy cats need a lot of grooming or else they become matted and can get skin disorders.

Even better get two cats they will keep each other company.
I prefer boys but make sure they are neutered because they will mark their territory by spraying also there are far too many unwanted cats who have to be destroyed. another good reason for getting a rescue cat. Female cats tend to bring home live pressies.

Also moggies tend to be less prone to illness. My old boy has only been to the vet once (except for routine jabs) and that was just to have his teeth cleaned.

do you want a cat you can show? if not, buying a show cat is a waste of money.

any cat can be fluffy and pretty- what you feed your cat has alot to do with the appearance of it's coat. i feed my cats high quality cat food and they have beautiful coats- and they are just petstore cats.

keep in mind the long hair breeds are alot more work. persians for example need to be brushed regularly or else they look mangy. and think of how much cat hair will be on your clothes, furniture, etc.

A great cat to have is a short hared cat. They are less maintenance than a long haired cat. long haired cats shed too much and get there fur all knotted.

You should also get a male cat because they are extremely friendly. Female cats get to independent over time. Just get the male cats fixed because they like to mark their territory. Orange tabby cats are very beautiful and you can find them anywhere. Also black tabby and calicoes.

Try a Himalayan or Persian - they're beautiful long haired cats with amazing temperments. I've had the pleasure of owning two of these wonderful cats!

Persians are fluffy and beautiful cats, just make sure you are prepared to keep up the daily grooming routine or their coat can get horribly and painfully matted.

You should try going to a shelter, they have gorgeous cats of all shape, size, and color. If you really want a purebred though, try a Maine Coon, they are a very big cat though, but they are gorgeous.

Check your local shelter for ideas.
I think cat love is nothing to do with looks, but personality.

Usually, which too long for me. I believe it depends on the guy and his face though. Certain guys can easily pull off long hair and other people can't.
