I don't understand the question.
You know what really bugs me? You'll never come to a point where you get to say 'Oh damn, turns out I don't have a soul after all.'
Damn stupid theists.

I find it amazing that people think that because you are atheist the spirit cannot live on. God is man's creation not the other way around. All I hear is that God stepped out of the heavens. Um, so where is that? God was created to keep civilizations together and provide explanations for things that we cannot explain or just plain luck. Such as God was looking out for him when somebody was almost in an accident. Now don't get me wrong if you want to believe in a higher power, great just don't try to convert me or I will show you all the inconsistencies there are in the bible or any other biblical text you wish to follow.

Atheists will be happy to find out their spirit lives on. That means they had a lifetime of dealing with facts not fantasy and still get to reap the benefit.
The ones who will be disappointed are the folks who thought living by a work of fiction called the bible, would give them some sort of extra special afterlife.
I think if you want to be happy instead of disappointed in the afterlife, you should start praying there isn't one!

Stop being so "religionist" or what ever you want to call it. If you were really all that Christian, you wouldn't be judging anyone for their beliefs. I, personally, don't believe in God or any of the afterlife kind-of-stuff, but I can also see why some people would believe in that to give them faith and something to live for. I think it's sad how someone like myself who is most likely younger than 3/4 of you people posting on this question can see that and you all can't.

The first atheist I ever heard of was when I was a child growing up. The man always bragged that he didn't believe in god. One day he ran his tractor off a terrible embankment. When he was finally found the tractor was on top of him and he was hollering, "God help me". Needless to say it was a life changing event for him. I heard it once said, if god weren't real what have I lost except some hours of my life worshiping him, but looked what I will gain if he is. I feel sorry for anyone that doesn't believe in my God.

If I find out that we do indeed possess immaterial spirits and that God does exist in such a capacity as to judge our spirit and banish us to a realm for all eternity where we will either be tormented or forced to worship, then I will be very, very sad. Wouldn't you, knowing that there were people who were being tortured for eternity?

If I died and found out I was going to keep on living in another form I would be happy. If I found out I was going to be punished for what I believed I would feel justified and proud to have rejected such a cruel and self-centered being.

Hopefully one day in the next transformation of Earth, all of our deepest thoughts and questions will be answered
Including the existence of a higher being and the creation of homo sapiens and the universe
No one really knows whether or not a higher being exists, they choose to believe or not to believe, don't let them tell you any otherwise

you could ask also: will most religious people be happy or sad when they find out their spirits dont live on and that god isn't real?
