Where I work we have to toast tea-cakes, which are of about the same thickness as the average bagel. And our toaster is FAR to thin for them, so we have several methods to solve this...

1) We cut the tea-cakes in half and then press them between our hands make them thin enough to toast in the toaster.

2) We toast the tea-cakes on top of the toaster, if your toaster is strong enough then it will toast fine, so long as you turn it over.

3) We use the slower toaster with the bigger slots.

4) Eat it raw. Just don't toast your bagel, I like mine untoased with cream cheese.... yum.

Put the bagel between the pages of a heavy book, and then stand or jump on the book. Flatten the bagel until it WILL fit in your toaster!

You have a couple of options, cut it slimmer, buy a bigger toaster that will handle your bagel or toast it in the oven, with the oven on broil. You will get the hang of it. It was the way we toasted bread growing up.

Cut it down from the inside and then put it in your regular toaster. I hope that you go out and buy a taoster that will fit the larger items. It's worth it.

Cut the bagel in half. If you already did that and it still doesn't fit, pop it in the oven on a piece of tinfoil for a few minutes...be careful though, dont let it burn!

Get a toaster with the texas toast sized slots, or if you want it done right now, use the broiler in your oven.
