Was the teriyaki sauce too sweet or sour? Well my mother, grandma, and ancestors made teriyaki sauce since the 1800's. The water is okay to dilute the flavor, however, could take all the taste out of it. When you are ready to soak your favorite meat, chicken or fish in the teriyaki sauce. First, remake your sauce in another bowl, add 3 large pieces of ginger and 3 gloves garlic smashed it in the bowl, and add all your watered teriyaki sauce, add a 1/4 cup of diced green onions or cilantro, add 1/2 cup of soyu, and a 1/4 cup of sugar(NOTE: More Sugar may be added upon your taste buds), if your not using all the sauce that day. Next, get an empty container such as a Jam jar or Tupperware and save the unused portion of the sauce, before soaking your meat or poultry or fish.

It would make it very bland. Wouldn't have much flavour at all. If you are running short better to go buy another bottle.
