I have lost about 20 pounds since September, and the members of my family who I dont see that often keep commenting about my weight. They say that I need to eat more, and that they are concerned that I may be developing an eating disorder. I tell them that their comments make me uncomfortable, as I am already self concious about my body. Does anyone else expierence the same thing with their family, and if so, how do you get the to stop making comments?

When I was ending high school, I also began losing my "freshmen 15". When family commented, I simply responded that I was probably thinning out from gaining weight as freshmen. I thanked them for being concerned and said I was healthy young person who had become more active.
However, that was my scenario. Questions to ask are:
Do you know why you have lost so much weight in the first place?
How old are you?
How much did you weigh beforehand?
How tall are you?

If you are like I was, it gets better. For me the comments were either 'wow, you look great' or 'gee, is everything okay?' I would say, yeah, why? You'll be fine! =)

I would guess the first question would be why did you lose the 20 pounds? If the reason was to make you feel better fine.

In personal experience, when my family started harrassing me about my weight and I had had enough of it I kind of retorted angerly that I knew I had gained weight and to leave me alone about it. Once I had done that a couple of times everyone seemed to have calmed down and no one really brings it up now. You might just have to get up the courage to face them and to let them know it bothers you.

my thing is not that i'm small and lossing it i'm a bigger girl and the weight is now falling off me but you need to remember that your family only says things becasue they care, But on the other hand you need to know that you can't change things that people say or do and also that if it is something that you cant change directly then dont worry about it. If you think you have a ED then you should make the choice to get the help you need but if not just be yourself and ignore them.

Good luck

Has it occured to you that maybe you DID lose too much?
Sometimes what people see in the mirror is NOT what others see at all. Check out a chart online for normal weight for your height. If you are under the recommended amount, your family's concerns are valid.
