Animals with tails are ones that have to go out to hunt to eat OR is answering a call to reproduce. In a fight the tails become part of the total balance. If two males are after the same female and both are the same physically and same mind set mentally the one with the stronger tail would win the fight. Why.. It would come down to a matter of "balance" in the holding of ground...

Without a tail a cat could not "land on their feet" either.. used for balance in the "hunt".

In Expressing emotions the tail and ears mean a lot also. This could get quite extensive. hahahhaa

You didn't ask this but concerning dogs who also have tails.... Can you see why... in the near future.... an animal with a bobbed tail or cropped ears will no longer be able to compete in the conformation ring or any dog sports?...

Hope This Helps
GOOD LUCK

It's NOT a dumb question, lots of ppl don't no the answer.

CATS have tails beacause when they, like, jump down from a window ledge THE TAIL is the thing which helps them to land on all fours, so YES basically for BALANCE.

Cats need their tails to keep balance when walking on just about anything thin (tree branch, windowsill, etc). Cats also use their tails to communicate with each other or to express emotions.

Tail up high: contentment
Tail even with back: ready to pounce
Tail low: frightened

That's the way God made them, and it was for a reason, I'm sure. It helps them to balance themselves, it acts as a warning signal to us and also to other animals When their tail starts switching faster & faster, look out....)P robably keeps the bugs away from them if they are outside, etc. There are probably lots more reasons, which I'm sure that someone alot smarter than I am will point out.

Tails do help cats to balance; they also use them to communicate their feelings with other cats. Interesting side note, though, the tail is part of their spine.

Mainly for balance and as a warning to let you or other animals know what's going on inside their feline mind. Cats can exist just fine without them, though.

Balance. The tail is the start and end of their balance.

It's not floating aimlessly, unlike your brain.
Tails in cats signals their mood. If it's moving fast they're nervous or excited, if it becomes fat because the hair stand on end they are scared, if it's still they're all right.
So, I guess you're not very bright, nor observant either.

OK-for a dumb question--here's an answer: (A) Because that's the way God made them, and (B) Mainly, for balance as they are climbing and/or falling.

i presume its for balance when they walk along walls and fences, but cats that have lost their tails and manx cats seem to manage just fine without them.
