Hang Art At Eye Level.
From what I've read... the most common mistake people make is hanging their pictures way too high. Hang your artwork so the center of the picture is at eye level. But of course, "eye level" means different things to different people.
If you are looking for some helpful tips on how high to hang art... 60" to 67" standard represents the average human eye-height and is regularly used as a standard in many galleries and museums.
In a home environment I would not adhere too strictly to any rule. It is really all a question of proportion and relationship. Or, just choose the height that you think looks best and then hang it 3 inches lower.
Choose - 60" to 67" on center. "On center" means that the middle of the picture is at the standard you choose.

Eye level is good, but keep in mind that this is for roughly the upper third of the picture, NOT the top of the frame.
Use the tallest person in the house, make a mark on the wall equal to the top of their head, and then align the top frame of the pictures with that line.
If the tallest person in the house is only 5 feet, you should add a foot in height.

No offense to the lady of the house, but 5 feet might be a little low. :) You should both stand facing the wall and hang the mirror at a level where you can both see in it. As for pictures, it depends on if they are being hung over a sofa, bed, table, etc. There really is not rule as to how high or low to hang them, so just have one of you hold it against the wall and you will know what looks right. Not too high and not too low.

Eye level, WHY? Well you want people to see the pictures don't you. To HIGH the pictures will not be notice they will just take up space on bare walls. Most people will not notice pictures that are high.

generally speaking; pictures, mirrors, and wall art of any kind should be hung at gallery height which would be 54" from the ground to the center of the piece.

Eye level is basically the right answer. And the most common mistake is hanging them too high. But don't be afraid to mix them up a bit -- -- several on a wall, some high, some low. And they don't have to be in a straight line, either vertically or horizontally. Mixing them up adds interest.
