Room has black tables/armoir entertainment center with darker brown cloth sofas/chairs. Trim in family room is white. Fire place on one wall with floor to ceiling wood work in white surrounding it. Carpet is a light beige. Walls are currently a grey which is ok but doesn't look great. Want the color to fit well with rest of downstairs. Have an open floor plan. Adjoins the kitchen which is an earth tone/neutral purple wall paper. Foyer is a darker taupe and dining room is a darker sage (a creamy/khaki green). All kind of fitting into the earthtone/neutral family. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Go to Lowe's they carry (Laura Ashley) paint.Look at the Laura Ashley Gold #3. I think it would be very pretty. It will look great with the rest of the rooms you have painted and also the furniture and carpet you have. And the black tables/entertainment center will just be the added punch you need. This paint is a bold and strong color when it is wet,but when it dries it tones down and is absolutely beautiful.I think you would love the color. In fact,I have it in my house(love It)

well, I would honestly say that you already have a lot of color going on there so I would take a very creamy white or light beige and do that in the family room. Then make that room your canvas for accessories and bright prints or paintings that bring together the other colors that you see in the other rooms. If you notice in magazines they will typically have very pale color rooms and the furniture and lamps etc seem to POP so much more. There is a color by benjamin moore called Muslin white? I may have that wrong, but it is a very classy pale cream. go do a search and find a room using that color. Good luck.

Since it is the family room, I would give it a punch with a cranberry walls with a white trim. The cranberry when done right with a white trim will give the room sophistication and classic beauty. It will not overwhelm the room, since the furnishings are simple earth tones. It will be a beautiful and pleasant surprise when one enters the room. Happy Decorating!

The black furniture and white trims calls for a bold color. I would go with a deep blue.

The use of color is also something very personal. A light blue or a gray make a small room seem wider.

How about a pale aqua blue? It looks great with black or brown or white.
