It could be a chest infection or just something u've gained from smoking (if you smoke, you may develop a bad cough anyway and the breathing heavily you described could be a form of wheezing)

Maybe you're breathing heavily because your nose is congested? Or the membranes are swollen.... It sounds like the cold.

It could be the flu. You should try to get some cough medicine and nasal spray if your nose is stuffy. Try the medicine for a week and if theres no improvement, or if your symptoms continue to get worse then you should see a doctor.

if u smoke, stop, drink plenty of hot drinks or soup, wrap up well before you go out and wrap a scarf round your mouth. also if you are out of shape try some light exercise everyday it will make u feel better
