Sometimes there is something that I really, really want to happen and I don't pray for it to ahppen. Often times it ends up happening. Does this mean that 'not praying' works?

Prayer is good for the soul. I don't always pray, but I believe. God know the desires of your heart and if you are faithful to him, he will grant you your hearts desires.
Asking for it is praying for it. There is no such thing as luck. Everything that happens is meant to happen. God makes no mistakes and you should never forget that. It will make life a little less difficult.

We need to PRAY. "Not praying" does nothing. When you were little and dependant on your parents for your needs, if you were hungry,wouldn''t you ASK them for something to eat? And wouldn't they RESPOND by doing so?
How will we receive answers if we don't ask? In order to have a relationship with Him, he needs your time and wants you to talk to him and share your burdens and your needs. Prayer is powerful. Prayer is based on faith. We have faith that He will meet our needs (our Heavenly Father) just as (most of us hopefully) had absolute faith in regard to our earthly parents' capacity to meet our needs.
He says: "Ask, and you will receive. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you." He says our prayers are like sweet incense to Him.

Sometimes we pray and not even realize were doing it....Watch out what you pray for...

Of course it does! Once I wanted to become more slothful, more bitter and cynical, and less kind and caring so I stopped praying and I saw immediate results!
