My 7-year-old black lab/retriever hasn't acted normal for several days. He vomited yesterday and has been very sluggish since Thursday morning. He seems a bit better today, but has been out in the rain staring into space.
He's never acted like this before. Could he have a cold or flu?
I was about a week late on his heartworm pill and I gave it to him on Thursday evening, when he already acted a little funny. So I don't think it's that.

I have a black too shes 9 . The only time she has really acted sluggish was wen she started to get a little older which was around 7 . and vommiting is most likely cause she ate something bad...especailly if hes been drinking alot of water. I highly doubt its the heart worms . but just go gte him checked up before it gets anyworse , i think u already waited too long to take him , make sure you give it a day when stuff liek this happends and if it last more then a day take him ot the vets

Your dog probably has worms, call the vet,get a little plastic container, and take a stool sample with you when you go to see the Dr. The heartworm med being a week late should not be a problem. Good luck,Labs are cool. PeeTee

I don't know enough about heartworm pills to say if it made him funny, but it is a possibility.
Make sure he hasn't been accessing anything he shouldn't be eating or chewing on, and keep track of any changes in his diet. Also check his stool to see if it looks abnormal (just at a glance, it would be obvious if there was something wrong). When in doubt call the vet's office and ask if you should be concerned.

It's not the heartworm pill. I'd take him to the vet. Older labs love to eat.... he may have tried something outside that is toxic to his system.

it's not parvo so don't be alarmed, but you sould call your vet tomorrow. and i don't think its the heartworms. heartworms do not show up in stool samples. theres a snap test that we do and requires a small blood sample and you probally know since your dog is on heartworm meds

Good--I'm glad to hear that he's up-to-date on all his shots---but, did you also have him get the one for PARVO? If not, get this dog to the vet IMMEDIATELY! This is deadly and nothing to wait around to see if it clears up. Parvo is something both dogs & cats pick up from the ground and can be transmitted to other animals.
Good luck with him--hope he's OK.

1- take him to the vet.
2- my collie was vomiting, had diahera(sp) and was real sluggish for almost 3 days.... took him to the vet, after testing, they said it was due to him eating rabbit do-do.(we have, had,) wild rabbits in the yard.he got put on meds. and we got rid of the wild rabbits and their do-do!
