I will be driving on my sixteenth birthday if I can get a job, because I will be responsible for paying ALL of my insurance. How much am I going to have to pay? I drive a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado. Plus I heard good grades have something to do with it (sometimes), I have an A average. Help!

Since you will be eligible for the good student discount you should be able to find affordable rates. You may want to try getting a quote online. I am paying less than ½ of what I was before I did.

The ONLY way you're going to find out is to call around for quotes. Nobody here can give you a meaningful number.

At 16, insurance is going to be expen$ive. Good grades will help as will being female but it's still going to hurt.

You'll generally get the best rate if you add your vehicle to your parent's insurance policy and pay them the difference in costs

Lots, mainly based on your age. The best thing to do would be to have your parents add you to their insurance, and pay whatever amount theirs goes up. If that isn't possible, find an independent agent that isn't tied to one company, and let him search for the best rate for you. Even the best rate will be high though, so be prepared for a shock.

Just as an aside, saying you drive a Chevrolet Silverado doesn't tell anyone much. Silverado refers to the trim package, not the model. Are you driving a 1500 pickup, a 2500, 3500 HD, or a sedan, or an SUV? They all come with the upgraded "Silverado" trim package.

Insurance will be expensive. But the advantage you have, is you have a perfect driving record so far. Since you don't have a driving record. People older sometimes pay more for insurance if they have had several accidents or such. Every company has a different algorithm, so to speak, for finding your insurance rate. So best to call a few big companies.

Depends on your state too. I would guess you are going to be in the $100-150 a month range. The V-8 engine in the truck is going to be the factor that raises it the most. Good grades will help but that is usually for a discount on your parents insurance.
