"You mean God is love!? If only I had know this sooner!"

It seems like a lot of proselytizers believe people are simply ignorant of their beliefs, that we haven't heard the "good news". Even the word Evangelical has, as its root word, "evangel", which means "good news". Muslims regularly urge others to read the Koran, as though it's a mysterious new book none of us ever read in College anyway.

Is it a sign of a certain kind of belief system or a habit leftover from when people really were unaware of these religions?

The "truth" of religion is so patently obvious to some brainwashed believers, that they cannot fathom how someone could academically understand their beliefs and still reject them.

When I see people who criticize theories such as Intelligent Design without ever having read any of there books I wonder if it is a matter of a lack of information or a lack of willingness to consider anyone Else's information. I suggest reading Michael Behe's Darwin's Black Box for yourself and not just read his critics. In his tenth edition he has added a new chapter to answer the critics. I also suggest reading the icons of evolution by Jonathan Wells.

I hate it when they do this. Talk about looking down at someone. It's as if they think only they have this special ability to read the Bible and figure out what it says. *Sigh* I guess they're hoping to make such an impression with their own proselytizing that the listener will suddenly convert and be a "good" little Christian.

I don't know what it is... but it's downright annoying.

sometimes you think you know--but you don't know. takes enlightenment from the Higher Power to understand. and when you finally do understand (even if its something small) some people get excited--- and may look like fools.

repetitive statements as "God is love"
may sound like just words to you--- or a broken record-- but to some, they see vastly needed knowledge and understanding. it is wisdom to them--- but foolishness to others.

All of us are missing critical pieces of information, otherwise the answer to our deepest thoughts and questions would be as blatant and bright as day

it's fear of failure--they figure God is going to look at them and say "you mean I gave you a whole lifetime to nag one person into converting and you couldn't do it?"

They really do not understand that atheists are likely to know more about religion than they do.
