Your Mommy kitty is so very young that she may not totally know from cat instinct what to do. You may have to help her along. First, watch carefully to see if she is trying to nurse the kittens. If she shows no interest (and, some very young Mommies don't), get to your vet or pet store and get the formula for new-born kittens. Do NOT give them regular milk as it will probably give them diarrhea. Next, the cord should fall off, and most often, the mother cat chews it off, but yours may be too young to know this. Don't worry about this part--they should fall off by themselves. Worry about the kittens eating, and if the Mommy is eating, and if she shows interest in the babies. It may take a few days to a week before she really "gets it", but do NOT wait that long to get the new born kitten formula to supplement until she gets into this nursing thing. It will take 10 days to 2 weeks before the kittens eyes start to open. And, finally, NO--it does NOT hurt them to pick them up CAREFULLY--as in, please do NOT allow small children hold them for fear that they may drop them. Hope this will help clear up all these questions. Now, when everything is over, and the kittens are growing up and eating on their own---go get Mommy spayed. Good luck.

2 to 3 weeks a kittens eyes should open im not exactly sure, it doesnt hurt them when you pick them up it just scares them, nothing happens if the cord doesnt fall off in four days because the ambillicol cord doesnt fall off in four days, it falls off when there ready or old enough that it falls off, and if the mom doesnt feed them you can always force the mom to lay in the box with the kittens and show the kittens where to get the milk and if that doesnt work try buying cat milk at a pet store such as pet smart or the vets office.(by the way who told you it falls off in four days?)oh and by the way dont ever feed them human milk it gives them diarreah. Glad to help.

don't worry about the cord falling off it will in time. your cat should feed her kittens but if she doesn't you will have real problems had rearing kittens is hard work and you need a specific kitten formula milk they would need feeding every 2 hours night and day.it doesn't hurt the kittens to be picked up but be very gentle with them when they are tiny and it might upset the mother if you handle them too much especially when they are newborn if she is very fussy she may reject them if you handle too much. best thing to do is to leave mother and kittens alone as much as possible for the next few days. she should sleep curled up with them. I believe it's about 2 weeks till there eyes open but it's been a while since I last had kittens. when their eyes are open you can play with them a lot more.

leave there eyes they will open on their own basicly treat them like you would a baby. Do not handle them as the mother cat may eat them if your scent is on them. The cord will dry up and fall off on its own. If your cat is not feed ing them there is a formula for kittens you can buy at pet stores (I have seen it at Walmart once too) Basicly let mom take care of them then get her fixed there is a huge over population of animals in shelters good luck.
You will have to keep these kittens for 6-8 weeks keep them a bit longer than shorter as they will not fully develop socially if taken from the mother too early.

See the vet about special formula to feed them if the mother rejects them, she is young, try not to pick them up, the cord should fall off, they open their eye at about 10 days,

Sharon W has good advice.
One other thing to watch for...Mommy is going to have to stimulate them in order for them to poop. If she doesn't do this, you will have to do it for her. She should lick their bottoms to get them to go...if you need to do it for her, use a damp cloth and wipe at their rumps gently.
It sounds gross, but the babies can't go potty by themselves. If neither the mommy or you do this, they will die.
Good luck!
