I set my player to record a movie on timed recording on my DVD/VCR recorder/player. It will stop recording and ejact the tape after recording for 37min 88 sec. In the lighted display where the time is the phase ERR 1 flashes. The VCR green light and the timer red light also flashes. Nothing in the manual says ERR 1. And the only thing it says about if your recorder will not record or stops recording is that power was interupt. My power has not been interupted and the tabs on my tapes are in tack. I called Philips and they say to send it in and it will cost me. Probably more then a new one. And they also said they could not guarantee that they could fix it and I would still be charged. Any tech wizard out there?

Since you can record DVD's, I'd suggest trying to use those instead of tapes. The latest one on their website shows that it can record DVD+RW and -RW -- those are rewriteable DVD's that you can use over and over again like tape. Check your manual to see if you can record those, too. They are usually only about $1 each, so if you get a few of them, you can record your programs to DVD and skip the tape. Lots cheaper than getting a new player...

If you still want to try to fix it, you might try unplugging it, removing the video cables, and shake it a little. Sometimes screws aren't installed properly and can fall out and affect the electronics. If you hear one rattling around, try to get it to fall out the tape slot...
