Absolutely. That's why you have until April 15th to pay the IRS. All you have to do is note when your marital status changed. This is no big deal. You can get it back in a refund.

When you file your tax return, this amount will likely be more than you were supposed to have taken out, and the IRS will issue you a rather large refund. However, without specifics, I can't say for sure. It could be possible, although probably not likely, that your spouse did not have enough withheld, so you may not get everything back. I would just leave your withholding amount the same. It's not like you'll be missing it, and it greatly increases the possibility that you will get a tax refund.

The important status is the one in effect on December 31st of the tax year. In this case, you would be filing as Married for the entire year.
Fill out the tax forms and see how much you will get back! And then adjust your deductions accordingly. You may want to continue to file as Single, depending on the household income and how many deductions you have.

If you ended up paying more that you end up owing, then you'll get the extra back when you file in the form of a refund. Actually, since your filing status is for the entire year even though you were only married for part of it, you might see more back than you expect.
Good luck.

What you show on your W-4 (not W-2, that comes from your employer) has no impact on how you file your tax return. Use the name that's shown on your Social Security Card when you file your return. If you have not updated that, use your maiden name. If you have, use your married name.

File your return as a married couple as normal. If you withheld too much, you will get a refund.
