My fiancee and I are in the AF. He's a bomber specific crew chief (his career field is frozen), but we desperately want to get closer towards the East Coast. I'm waiting to hear back on my retraining package, but I think they'll make me follow him (not vice versa) because there are only a few bases bomber crew chiefs can go to. He wants to change his career altogether though. Has anyone been through this?

You may speak to your Career Counselor about what you
should do and they'll be glad to help and/or you and your
fiancee could talk to you prospective 1st Sgts and CO and they might be able to help. That is one reason that military units have 1st Sgts, because if they have any kind of leadership qualities, they would be glad to help!!!

He might have to change his MOS. Have they talked about phasing out that MOS?? If so they might try to force him out. Im not to sure about the Air Force, but the Marines have monitors. These guys are in charge of sending people where needed. For instance I was a E-4 1341 in N.C. I talked to my monitor and asked if there were any available positions on the west coast. There was. I requested orders and got them endorsed and in 4 months I was gone. I also have a Master Gunnery Sergeant who is my friend talk to him on my behalf. He told him my mom was ill. And I got my orders..... In the military its not always what you know but it is who you know. That was about 5 years ago. Hope this helps. You guys should check for available billets. There is always someone getting out or retiring. Oh yeah if they deny you then just request mast. But only as a last resort.
